The Kaiser test uses three solutions ninhydrin (5 g in 100 ml of ethanol), phenol (80 g crystalline phenol in 20 ml ethanol), and pyridine/KCN [dilute 2 ml of 0.001 mol/liter aqueous solution of KCN (potassium cyanide) with 98 ml of pyridine]. The test is performed by transferring a few resin beads to a 6 x 50-mm glass test tube. The beads are washed with ethanol and a drop of each of the three testing solutions is added. The tube is then heated to 100° for 5 min in a heating block. Blue (brown for proline)-colored beads and solution (positive test) indicate the presence of free amino groups on the resin. Colorless beads (negative test) indicate complete coupling. The quality of phenol is important. Impure phenol may result in a false-positive Kaiser test. [Pg.303]

Data quality was indicated with three different codes. A "V" code was used to indicate completely valid data. Those data met stringent EPA criteria including the correct measurement of performance samples. An "I" code was used to indicate invalid data. Those data were considered completely unusable and indicated that a "critical" control feature was not achieved. For example, the reporting of a "not detected" for a positive performance seunple would invalidate all associated samples. Finally, a "J" code was used to signify data in which "non-critical" controls were not met. Safety aspects associated with this job require employees to work with extreme causation. Safety compliance is a key performance indicator for this job. Thirty hospitals participated in the study, through business process analysis and semistructured interviews. Tools were implemented in 19 health facilities. Their impact was measured in terms of admission, patient identification, mortality, and morbidity. This research illustrates the secondary use of clinical data, enabling non-redundant reporting of health and care performance indicators. Patient identification, financial management, and structured reporting improved dramatically after implementation of ICT tools. Overall morbidity decreased, as well as the number of inpatient visits. The hospital workforce found the implementation of the system very positive, in terms of both quality of care and working conditions. [Pg.291]
