Handbook 44 defines five accuracy classes for scales in terms of the value of the scale division and the number of divisions. Class I appHes to precision laboratory weighing. Class II appHes to laboratory weighing (precious metals, gems, and grain test scales). Class III appHes to the majority of industrial and retail scales, and to all scales not specified in the other categories. Class III L appHes to vehicle, Hvestock, railway, crane, and hopper scales. Class nil appHes to portable scales used for highway weight enforcement. [Pg.329]

Chemiluminescence has been studied extensively (2) for several reasons (/) chemiexcitation relates to fundamental molecular interactions and transformations and its study provides access to basic elements of reaction mechanisms and molecular properties (2) efficient chemiluminescence can provide an emergency or portable light source (J) chemiluminescence provides means to detect and measure trace elements and pollutants for environmental control, or clinically important substances (eg, metaboHtes, specific proteins, cancer markers, hormones, DNA) and (4) classification of the hioluminescent relationship between different organisms defines their biological relationship and pattern of evolution. [Pg.262]

A mobile source of air pollution can be defined as one capable of moving from one place to another under its own power. According to this definition, an automobile is a mobile source and a portable asphalt batching plant is not. Generally, mobile sources imply transportation, but sources such as construction equipment, gasoUne-powered lawn mowers, and gasoline-powered tools are included in this category. [Pg.91]

As defined in NFPA 30 portable tanks have capacities above 60 gallons (227 L) and usually below 660 gallons (2498 L). [Pg.149]

Potentiodynamic polarisation The characteristics of passive/active conditions for metals can be readily defined using this technique ". Details for laboratory application can be found in ASTM Standard G5 (latest revision). Application in plant is easily performed as portable equipment (potentiostat) is available from several manufacturers, with some models incorporating built-in computer facilities. [Pg.1138]

For less well defined incidents however, these detection systems may be inadequate. Portable chemical detectors may not be able to be deployed to the site, not detect the agen, or give inconclusive results. Clinical findings may be non-specific, present in an atypical manner, or for example in the case of sulphur mustard, have a latency period that delays firm pattern recognition. Due to the physico-chemical properties of the agent or the time between release and collection, environmental samples may have low agent levels or sufficiently high contaminants to prevent adequate results. [Pg.124]

The classes of portable fire extinguishers manufactured and used in the USA are defined below. Other countries have similar classifications (although these may not be exactly the same). [Pg.203]

Hammett acidity function chem An expression for the acidity of a medium, defined as ho = Kbh+ BH / B, where Kbh+ is the dissociation constant of the acid form of the Indicator, and BH+ and B are the concentrations of the protonated base and the unprotonated base respectively. ham at a sid ad e. faijk shan ) hand sugar refractometer analy chem Portable device to read refractive Indices of sugar solutions. Also known as protelnometer. hand shCig ar. re.frak tam-3d-3r1... [Pg.174]

Portable systems must operate on a portable power source. Often this simply means batteries. When heating becomes a part of the operating sequence, batteries can be consumed quickly. A well-defined energy budget is necessary early in the design process. [Pg.18]

IMS development in recent years has been focused on increasing sensitivity and miniaturization for portability. Since the basic operation is rather well defined,... [Pg.214]

Several portable inhalation devices have been developed and are being tested to determine whether they improve protein and peptide delivery via the airways. Aerosolized DNase has been shown in patients with cystic flbrosis to significantly reduce the buildup of mucus in the lung and the incidence of infections. Devices for delivery of therapeutic proteins to deep-lung alveoli to achieve systemic effects are also in development. These products are formulated so that the device aerosolizes the protein in a defined particle size range that cannot be easily achieved by means of conventional metered dose inhalers. [Pg.369]

Most MPP vendors will provide HPF (or at least the subset) including extrinsic procedures on most message-passing machines. However, HPF is still not widely available, and portability will remain an issue because many facets such as I/O are not defined. Applied Parallel Research has a product called xHPF that provides a partial HPF subset with portability between true MPP machines and workstation clusters (using PVM,, Express, or Linda ). The performance and robustness of this package are not known to us. [Pg.227]

Full MPI is big, with about 50 defined constants and about 120 routines in the FORTRAN interface. To encourage rapid implementation, a subset has been defined that includes most of the point-to-point routines, simple global operations, and restrictions on the nature of communicators. Several vendors promise to have early implementations, and a portable version is already available from Argonne National Laboratory. The portable version will be built upon P4 or PVM on workstation clusters. [Pg.228]
