Plastic equipment

Adsorption of t-PA to process equipment surfaces consisting of either stainless steel or glass was minimized by adding the detergent polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate (Tween 80) to the semm-free culture conditioned media at 0.01% (vol/vol). The equipment was also rinsed, before use, with phosphate buffered saline (PBS) containing 0.01% Tween 80. Hydrophilic, plastic equipment was used whenever possible. AH buffers were sterile filtered. Sterile filtration of Hquids and gases is usually carried out using 0.2 or 0.45 p.m filters. [Pg.46]

Urethanes are processed as mbber-like elastomers, cast systems, or thermoplastic elastomers. The elastomer form is mixed and processed on conventional mbber mills and internal mixers, and can be compression, transfer, or injection molded. The Hquid prepolymers are cast using automatic metered casting machines, and the thermoplastic peUets are processed like aU thermoplastic materials on traditional plastic equipment. The unique property of the urethanes is ultrahigh abrasion resistance in moderately high Shore A (75—95) durometers. In addition, tear, tensUe, and resistance to many oUs is very high. The main deficiencies of the urethanes are their resistance to heat over 100°C and that shear and sliding abrasion tend to make the polymers soft and gummy. [Pg.234]

If possible, eliminate inherently weak equipment like sight glasses, hoses, rotameters, bellows, expansion joints, and most plastic equipment. The spare parts consumption from the shop and warehouse will indicate what is wearing out. [Pg.76]

The maximum heat radiation that people are exposed to from a flarestack should not exceed 4.7 kW/m (1,500 Btu/ft /hr), about three times the peak solar radiation in the tropics. Even this amount of radiation can be withstood without injury for only a minute or two. The maximum to which people may be exposed continuously is about 1.7 kW/m (500 Btu/ft-/hr). In the neighborhood of flarestacks (say, wherever the radiation could exceed 1.7 kW/m ), the temperatures reached by cables, roofing materials, and plastic equipment should all be reviewed to make sure they cannot be damaged [8, 9]. [Pg.142]

The amount of air that can be drawn into an enclosure to support combustion will depend on both the size and configuration of ventilation openings in the enclosure. A poorly ventilated fire will create more smoke and byproducts. Any unburnt fuel may also burn outside the enclosure, endangering adjacent areas. A fire in a structure may also cause other fuels to burn such as cables, paint, plastic equipment etc. These will add to the fuel load and to the smoke. [Pg.406]

While gravity-fed columns including adsorption or ion exchange are recommended when extensive sample cleanup is required, the analyst should be cautious about contamination and adsorptive effects contributing to sample loss. Liquid-liquid partitioning is the preferred technique. When concentrating solvents, care should be taken to insure against loss of volatile extracts. Plastic equipment or fibrous filters should be avoided. [Pg.610]

Except as noted below, the use of plastic equipment for pressure or vacuum work should be avoided unless no suitable substitute is available. These materials can fail under pressure or thermal stress. [Pg.129]

Where glass or metal equipment which can be used several times is employed instead of commercially available sterile disposable plastic equipment, then the former must be carefully cleaned and sterilized each time before it is used. [Pg.628]
