POLYMERIC BACTERICIDE

Polymeric. Bactericide and fungicide for paint. Polymeric white powder. Virtually insol. all common org. solvs. Mp 283-6 dec. [Pg.56]

Uses. Thiosalicylic acid has been used as an anthelmintic, bactericide, and fungicide. It has also been used as a mst remover, a corrosion inhibitor for steel, and a polymerization inhibitor. In photography, it has apphcation in print-out emulsions and as an activator for photographic emulsions. [Pg.293]

Antibiotics are produced by fermentation. The process may take a few days to obtain an extractable amount of product. Antibiotic production is done by the batch process. Oxygen transport is the major concern therefore sufficient polymeric sugar and protein with a trace amount of elemental growth factors are used to enhance production. An anti-biogram test is used to observe the amount of antimicrobial agent in the fermentation broth. A bioassay determines the activity unit of the bactericides. [Pg.263]

Several investigators have published research on incompatibilities of preservatives with rubber closures and other packaging components, particularly polymeric materials [11]. Again, challenging the product with selected microorganisms to measure bacteriostatic or bactericidal activity is necessary, including evaluation of efficacy as a function of time throughout the anticipated shelf life of the product. [Pg.393]

Pharmacology Nalidixic acid, a bactericidal agent, appears to interfere with deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) polymerization. [Pg.1549]

The glycopeptides include vancomycin and teico-planin. They are bactericidal antibiotics. Their mechanism of action is based on inhibition of bacterial cell-wall synthesis by blocking the polymerization of glycopeptides. They do not act from within the peptidoglycan layer, as the beta-lactam antibiotics do, but intracellularly. The indications are mainly restricted to the management of severe or resistant staphylococcal infections, especially those caused by coagulase negative staphylococcal species such as S. epidermidis. [Pg.415]

The glycopeptides are inhibitors of cell wall synthesis. They bind to the terminal carboxyl group on the d-alanyl-D-alanine terminus of the A-acetylglucosamine-A-acetylmuramic acid peptide and prevent polymerization of the linear peptidoglycan by peptidoglycan synthase. They are bactericidal in vitro. [Pg.553]

Ultraviolet light - A form of energy occupying a position in the spectrum of sunlight beyond the violet, and having wavelengths of less than four micrometers which is the limit of visible light. UV (ultraviolet) rays are very active chemically, exhibit bactericidal action, and cause many substances to fluoresce. UV rays accelerate deterioration of rubber parts exposed to them and can initiate polymerization. [Pg.273]

Other significant uses of PCBs included heat exchangers and hydraulic fluids. Prior to controls PCBs were also used in adhesives, coatings, plasticizers and inks for microencapsulating dyes for carbonless duplicating paper as extenders in pesticide formulations and catalyst carriers in olefin polymerizations to impart hydrophobicity to materials and surfaces in bactericide formulations (combined with insecticides), and in immersion oil for microscopes. Mixed with chloronaphthalenes, PCBs were also used in wire and cable insulation in the mine and shipbuilding industries (ref. 80, p. 455). [Pg.343]

The literature is replete with reports of minor inhibitions of some biochemical or physiological process by chemotherapeutic drugs. In my own laboratory it was found that quinacrine caused a slight inhibition of protein biosynthesis in susceptible bacteria which subsequently was verified in a cell-free poly U system, polymerizing phenylalanine 18 Since it was also established, however, that the drug is a strong inhibitor of DNA biosynthesis 17 and that this effect accounts for the bactericidal action of quinacrine, the slight effect on protein biosynthesis was not mistaken as the mode of action. [Pg.3]

Use Bleaching textiles, paper, oils, waxes, starch polymerization catalyst bactericide and fungicide, especially in food processing epoxidation of fatty acid esters and epoxy resin precursors reagent in making caprolactam, synthetic glycerol. [Pg.958]

The mechanisms of a wide range of bactericidal agents, including silver sulfadiazine, 43, which has an extended polymeric structure51, were examined by Ames, Ryan and... [Pg.341]

Dehyquart . [Henkel mery/Cdspha Henkel KGaA Fulcra SA] Quaternaries emulsifier for emulsion polymerization softener, conditioner, bactericide, antistat, corrosion inhibitor, sequestrant for cleaning formulations, personal care prods. [Pg.100]

Bu3Sn(OAc) (produced by reacting BujSnCl and NaOAc) is an elfective fungicide and bactericide it also has applications as a polymerization catalyst. [Pg.521]
