Polyethylene derivatives

It is possible to manipulate the structure chemically to provide artificial substitutes, the most familiar of which will be the pegylated derivatives in which polyethylene derivatives are bonded to the basic structure of, for example, phosphatidylethanola-mine (Figure 9.3). [Pg.242]

Polyethylene-derived diesel is susceptible to waxing problems. It is not just the molecular weight (i.e. chain length) that will cause waxing, it is the presence of linear (unbranched) n-aUcane chains (i.e. paraffins) and these are more likely to be formed from PE feedstocks. Such straight chains can readily fold and pack tightly to form crystals. [Pg.399]

A cation exchange membrane was developed to overcome these disadvantages. This membrane allows continuous regeneration and consists of a sulfonated polyethylene derivative. It is resistant to water-miscible organic solvents and exhibits a high permeability for quaternary ammonium bases such as tetrabutylammonium hydroxide. Hence, the suppression mechanism differs substantially from the process for anion exchange chromatography described in Section 3.3.3. [Pg.215]

Photochemical hole burning spectroscopy is applied to estimate the low-temperature relaxation properties of polymers. Methacrylate polymers, polyethylene derivatives, and polymers with aromatic groups were studied. Both slight and large changes of microenvironments around doped dye molecules are detected by temperature cycling experiment. Relaxation behavior of the polymers is discussed in relation to their diemical structures. The low-energy excitation mode of each polymer is also estimated and... [Pg.173]

Nowadays, certain blend of polylactide and polycaprolactone are extensively used for packaging of vegetable oils. These blend exhibit comparable tensile strength, brittleness, and rigidity as packaging material derived from polypropylene or polyethylene derivative. The PLA and PCL shows improved barrier properties and prevents aroma losses but only limitation of using this blend as packaging material is its inefficient gas permeability. [Pg.165]

The different types of polyethylene derive from differences in the polymer chains, which in turn result in variations in melting points, densities, properties and therefore applications (see Table 2.4). It may be necessary to specify the type of polyethylene being referred to, e.g., HDPE, LDPE or LLDPE. [Pg.17]

It is also an important reaction because it transforms PBDs into polyethylene derivatives. The polymerization of butadiene and consecutive hydrogenation of the products has been used to obtain polyethylene derivatives [9]. Hydrogenation of tailored PBDs can, thus, be the most convenient route to a specific polyethylene microstmcture [10]. Hydrogenation is generally the last step in the functionalization of PBD. [Pg.171]

Poly(DBF) is a vinyl polymer and is kin of polystyrene, a versatile and durable material unlike the other jc-stacked polymers. However, poly(DBF) and its derivatives have characteristic structural and functional features that are not known for polystyrene and its analogues and can be recognized, in the context of this chapter, as a polyethylene derivative which creates an ordered alignment of fluorene, a chro-mophore molecule. Hereafter, the synthesis, structure, and properties of ju-stacked poly(DBF) and its derivatives are described in detail. [Pg.4]
