Polychlorinated biphenyl Articles

In earlier editions of the Eniyclopedia there have been articles covering the properties, manufacture, capacities, etc, of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), chlorinated naphthalenes, benzene hexachloride, and chlorinated derivatives of cyclopentadiene. These materials are no longer in commercial use because of their toxicity. However, they stiU impact on the chemical industry because of residual environmental problems. Their toxicity and environmental impact are discussed (see Cm.OROCARBONSANDCm.OROHYDROCARBONS, TOXIC aromatics). [Pg.506]

Excerpt 4C is taken from an article in Analytical Chemistry. Headspace solid-phase microextraction (HSSPME) is coupled with GC to quantify polychlorinated biphenyls (RGBs) in milk. The RGBs are volatilized out of the liquid phase (milk) into the gas phase (headspace) and concentrated on an SPME fiber. The concentrated RGBs on the fiber are then injected into the GG. [Pg.126]

Articles are exempt from various provisions of the TSCA, including (1) a person who imports or processes a chemical substance subject to specific information-gathering rules under 40 CFR Part 704 is exempt from reporting and recordkeeping rules to the extent that the chemical substance is imported or processed solely as part of an article [12] (2) notices of export are not required for articles, except for polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) articles and other articles that EPA specifically makes subject to export notice requirements [13] ... [Pg.36]

The export rule requires export notification for Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) or PCB articles, for any purpose other than disposal, except where the PCBs are present in a concentration of less than of equal to fifty parts per milhon by weight or volume. All other exports of articles are exempt from the notification requirements, unless specifically required by the content of 5, 6, or 7 actions. For example, a rule proposed on lead and zinc fishing... [Pg.271]

The least examined environmental media in the development of IMS methods or applications is soil 5 to 10 journal articles have been released over the past 40 years. The compounds or families of substances determined include 2,4-dichlorohenoxy-acetic acid (2,4-0), ° aromatic hydrocarbons, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and explosives.
