Poly , modified vinyl

Three approaches have been tested, as already described above for inorganic supports. The first attempts concern the direct reaction of transition metal carbonyls with unmodified organic polymers like poly-2-vinyl-pyridine.61 62 However, this kind of anchoring is restricted to only a few complexes. Various polymers have been functionalized with donor groups 63-72 ligand displacement reactions using these afforded the corresponding immobilized complexes. Finally, tests with modified complexes and unmodified polymers are scarce because of the low stability of these complexes under the conditions of reactions. [Pg.451]

Electrochemical doping of insulating polymers has been attempted for polyacetylene, polypyrrole, poly-A/-vinyl carbazole and phthalocyaninato-poly-siloxane. Significantly, Shirota et al. [91] claim to have achieved the first synthesis of electrically conducting poly(vinyl ferrocene) by the method of electrochemical deposition (ECD) [91]. This is based on the insolubilization of doped polymers from a solution of neutral polymers. A typical procedure applied [91] for polyvinyl ferrocene is to dissolve the polymer in dichlorometh-ane and oxidize it anodically with Ag/Ag+ reference electrode under selective conditions. The modified polymer [91] (Fig. 28) is a partially oxidized mixed valence salt containing ferrocene and ferrocenium ion pendant groups with C104 as the counter anion. [Pg.110]

Other than AUNPs, Quantum dots have also been employed in the development of pesticide sensors. Li et al. have synthesized Poly (N-vinyl-2-pyrrolione) (PVP)-capped CdS quantum dots (QCdS-PVP) from CdC and Na2S in the presence of PVP [37], AChE was immobilized onto this QCdS-PVP matrix incorporated GCE surface. The resulting GCE/ QCdS-PVP/AChE sensor was used for the detection of OP pesticides, such as trichlorfon. The enzyme immobilization procedure was described as follows. About 3 ml of QCdS-PVP was deposited on the surface of the GCE and dried in air. Then 3 ml of 0.5 mg ml"1 AChE along with 2.5% GA was deposited on the surface of the QCdS-PVP modified GCE and dried for 1 h at room temperature. TEM results show that, the QCdS-PVP particles were homogeneously distributed and they possess an average size of 2-4 nm (Fig. 9). [Pg.298]

The diffusion step becomes important for polymer-modified electrodes. Thus, the apparent diffusion coefficient depends on the concentration of redox groups because the acceleration of the electron exchange decreases with the ion distance. These conclusions were drawn from a series of polyvalent ions anchored electrochemically to poly(4-vinyl pyridine) on graphite [47]. [Pg.494]

Colloidal metal clusters, which offer a high surface area for better activity, have been stabilized by polymers. Thus, a homogeneous dispersion of a cobalt-modified platinum cluster was stabilized by a coordinating polymer, poly(/V-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone).74 Addition of the cobalt(II) [or iron(III)] doubled the activity and increased the selectivity from 12 to 99% when the catalyst was used to reduce cin-namaldehyde (5.23). [Pg.112]

The excellent sorption capacity of the hypercrosslinked mesoporous poly-DVB with respect to selective removal of P2M from its mixtures with albumin and other semm proteins, combined with superior hemocompat-ibility of the beads surface modified with poly(N-vinyl)pyrrolidone, justified the manufacturing of an experimental batch of the material for initial clinical studies. The polymer was named BetaSorb (RenalTech International, USA) and was used in 300 mL cylindrical polysrdfone devices that were steam-sterilized and filled with normal saline containing 1000 lU heparin. The device was placed in line with the dialysis circuit, upstream of the dialyzer, in order to not affect the pressure drop across the dialyzer membrane. The blood flow was maintained at the customary value of 400 mL/ min, again the optimal flow rate for the dialyzer. The complete setup of the combined hemoperfusion-hemodialysis treatment [361] is displayed in Fig. 15.2. [Pg.577]

Weickenmeier and Wenz [84] investigated the inclusion complex formation of poly[(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone)-co-(maleic acid)] modified with j8-CD moieties with 1-adamantanamine and with 1-adamantanecarboxylic acid by isothermal titration calorimetry. They reported 1 1 inclusion complexes between -CD moieties and adamantane derivatives with relatively large binding constants (ca. 3-5 x 10 M ). [Pg.89]

Quaternary pyridinium polymers can show biological activity when bound to surfaces, e.g., poly(4-vinyl pyridine)-modified glass surfaces which were modified using different alkyl bromide derivatives. Suitable polymers for antibacterial applications not only exhibit antibacterial activity, but also non-toxicity to human cells (i.e., selectivity). [Pg.213]

In particular, the commercial latexes widely used in the world are styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), polychloroprene rubber (CR), polyacrylic ester (PAE) and poly(ethylene-vinyl acetate) (EVA) copolymers. Most commercial polymer latexes for cement modifiers contain proper antifoaming agents, and can be generally used without the addition of the antifoaming agents during mbcing. [Pg.29]

Insoluble inserts are polymeric systems into which the drug is incorporated as a solution or dispersion. Ophthalmic inserts (ocuserts) have been reported using alginate salts, poly(A-vinyl pyrrol-idone), modified collagen, and hydroxyl propyl methyl cellulose. Ocufit is a silicone elastomer-based matrix that allows for the controlled release of an active ingredient over a period of at least 2 weeks. Osmotically controlled inserts have also been described, where release is by diffusion and is osmotically controlled. [Pg.1177]

In marked contrast, electrodes modified by incorporating the mediator into a quaternized poly(4-vinyl)pyridine, qPVP, film did not exhibit day-to-day stability in a flow system. Moreover, as shown in Fig.l, working curves for flow injection determinations at such electrodes are nonlinear and have a lower slope than at the bare electrode. The illustrated case is for the determination of nitrite. The electrode for the experiment in Fig.l was glassy carbon which was dip-coated with qPVP and metalated with hexachloroiridate the experimental conditions were following ... [Pg.268]
