Poly hybrids

Poly(ethylene oxide). The synthesis and subsequent hydrolysis and condensation of alkoxysilane-terniinated macromonomers have been studied (39,40). Using Si-nmr and size-exclusion chromatography (sec) the evolution of the siUcate stmctures on the alkoxysilane-terniinated poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) macromonomers of controlled functionahty was observed. Also, the effect of vitrification upon the network cross-link density of the developing inorganic—organic hybrid using percolation and mean-field theory was considered. [Pg.329]

Poly(vinyl acetate). The dielectric and mechanical spectra of hybrids produced by mixing a poly(vinyl acetate)—THE solution with TEOS, followed by the addition of HCl have been investigated (45). Mixtures were made which were beheved to be 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt % Si02, respectively. These composites were transparent and Eourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ftir) revealed hydrogen bonding between the siUcate network and carbonyl units of the poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc). No shift in the T of the composites from that of the pure PVAc was observed. Similarly, the activation... [Pg.329]

Related work is discussed in the section on poly(ethylene oxide) hybrids (40). [Pg.330]

Other organic—inorganic hybrids include poly(ethyloxazoline)—siUca, poly(vinyl alcohol)—siUca, poly(arylene ether) ketone—siUca, polyimide—siUca, polyozoline—sihca, poly(ethylene oxide)—siUca, and polymers—modified alkoxysilane. [Pg.260]

In addition, polyester polyols are made by the reaction of caprolactone with diols. Poly(caprolactone diols) are used in the manufacture of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers with improved hydrolytic stabiHty (22). The hydrolytic stabiHty of the poly(caprolactone diol)-derived TPUs is comparable to TPUs based on the more expensive long-chain diol adipates (23). Polyether/polyester polyol hybrids are synthesized from low molecular weight polyester diols, which are extended with propylene oxide. [Pg.347]

As expected, the TgS of the hybrid sulfanuric-phosphazene polymers are much closer to the values reported for poly(phosphazenes) than those of sulfanuric polymers (vide supra). The values for the polymers 14.10a... [Pg.288]

Tlie name fulvaleiie was first mentioned by R. Brown (49TFS296), who expanded the class of fulvenes for those compounds containing two cyclic poly-enic systems with a central double bond. Tlius, depending on the ring size, cy-clopropylidenecyclopropene 1, fulvaleiie 2, heptafulvalene 3 and the unsymmetrical hybrid molecules triapentafulvalene (calicene) 4, triaheptaful-valene 5, and pentaheptafulvalene (sesquifulvalene) 6 are members of this class of cyclic cross-conjugated systems (Scheme 1). [Pg.116]

As an organic polymer, poly(tetramethylene oxide) was also used for the preparation of ceramers. The mechanical properties in these cases were much improved in comparison with those for hybrids from polysiloxanes. In these poly (tetramethylene oxide)-silica hybrids, the effect of the number of functional triethoxysilyl groups was examined [13]. As shown in Fig. 2, more multifunctional organic polymer produced more crosslinked hybrid networks. This means that the more rigid the structure in the hybrids is, the higher the modulus and the lower swelling property. [Pg.15]

In the sol-gel procedure for the preparation of hybrids, polymeric acid catalysts such as poly (styrene sulfonic acid) were also used instead of hydrogen chloride [14]. The polymeric acid catalyst was effective for the preparation of hybrids at a similar level to that of hydrogen chloride catalyst. In some cases, the increased modulus was observed due to the higher extent of reaction. No difference was observed in morphologies between the hybrids prepared with polymeric and small molecule acid catalysts. The method using polymeric acid catalyst may depress the ion-conductive property, characteristic to the mobile acidic small molecules. Polymeric catalyst may also influence the rheology of the resulting hybrids. [Pg.15]

By using a similar procedure for the preparation of hybrids of silica, hybrids materials consisting of other metal oxides were also prepared by the group of Wilkes [15]. For example, titania was incorporated into organic polymers by using the chemically controlled condensation (CCC) method for the preparation of poly(tetramethylene oxide)-silica or poly(dimethylsiloxane)-silica hybrids. Especially, in the case of the hybrid with poly (tetramethylene oxide), the modulus or ultimate strength of the hybrid increased in the presence of titania component, as shown in Table 3. This phenomenon was explained by the catalytic ability of... [Pg.15]

Alumina, zirconia, or zinc hybrids with poly(tetramethylene oxide)s were prepared by means of the conventional sol-gel method starting from metal... [Pg.16]

Poly(arylene ether ketone) and poly(arylene ether sulfone) were also tried to be incorporated into the hybrids with silica gel by means of the sol-gel procedure [19, 20], For example, triethoxysilyl-terminated organic polymer was subjected to co-hydrolysis with tetraethoxysilane. A systematic change in mechanical and physical properties of the hybrid glass has been found with the content of organic polymer and the annealing temperatures. [Pg.17]

Second, in the case of polyoxazoline hybrid, the characteristic property of high compatibility of organic polymer with polar organic commodity polymers such as poly(vinyl chloride) or polyamide can be used as a type of compatibilizer. That is, it makes possible to incorporate the third organic polymer in the polyoxazoline-silica gel hybrid. [Pg.28]

Noell et al. reported the preparation of silica-poly(ether ether ketone) hybrid materials with improved physical properties.155 An amine-end-capped poly(ether ether ketone) was used to react with isocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane in tetrahydrofuran (THF). The triethylsilane-end-capped poly (ether ether ketone) was mixed with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) in THF. Quantitative amounts of water were introduced into die system, and the mixture was reduxed at 80°C. The entire reaction mixture was allowed to further react in Tedon molds. Tough transparent materials were obtained by diis approach. [Pg.348]

Tian et al. [56] have studied poly(G-caprolactone)-silica and Sengupta et al. [57] have investigated nylon 66-silica hybrid systems and have observed that the phase separation started when Si/H20 mole ratio is increased above 2 and the resultant hybrid films become opaque. Gao [11] has reported similar observations on sol-gel-derived ionomeric polyethylene-silica system. A wide range of literatures is not available on this topic of mbber-silica hybrid nanocomposites, though Bandyopadhyay et al. [34,35] have reported the hybrid formation with different TEOS/H2O mole ratios from ACM and ENR and also demonstrated detailed structure-property correlation in these systems. The hybrids have been prepared with 1 1, 1 2, 1 4, 1 6, 1 8, and 1 10 TEOS/H2O mole ratios. Figure 3.14 shows the morphology of the ACM-silica hybrid composites prepared from different TEOS/H2O mole ratios. [Pg.71]

Different polymer-nano-ZnO hybrid systems based on epoxyl2 [42], poly(styrene-co-acrylic acid) [43], polyurethane [44], etc. have been reported by several other researchers. [Pg.94]
