Polarizers, high performance

The separation of the polysaccharide components utilizes their different solubUities, polar groups, extents of branching, molecular weights, and molecular flexibUities and may be accompUshed batchwise or with easUy automated column techniques such as column or high performance Uquid chromatography. These procedures have been summarized in several reviews (3,141—143). [Pg.33]

Ryton fibers are high performance products developed by Phillips Petroleum Co. by reaction of -dichloroben2ene with sodium sulfide in the presence of a polar solvent according to the following ... [Pg.70]

Solvent for Displacement Reactions. As the most polar of the common aprotic solvents, DMSO is a favored solvent for displacement reactions because of its high dielectric constant and because anions are less solvated in it (87). Rates for these reactions are sometimes a thousand times faster in DMSO than in alcohols. Suitable nucleophiles include acetyUde ion, alkoxide ion, hydroxide ion, azide ion, carbanions, carboxylate ions, cyanide ion, hahde ions, mercaptide ions, phenoxide ions, nitrite ions, and thiocyanate ions (31). Rates of displacement by amides or amines are also greater in DMSO than in alcohol or aqueous solutions. Dimethyl sulfoxide is used as the reaction solvent in the manufacture of high performance, polyaryl ether polymers by reaction of bis(4,4 -chlorophenyl) sulfone with the disodium salts of dihydroxyphenols, eg, bisphenol A or 4,4 -sulfonylbisphenol (88). These and related reactions are made more economical by efficient recycling of DMSO (89). Nucleophilic displacement of activated aromatic nitro groups with aryloxy anion in DMSO is a versatile and useful reaction for the synthesis of aromatic ethers and polyethers (90). [Pg.112]

Phenothiophosphine ring-containing polyamides and polyesters were also prepared by the polycondensation of 2,8-bischloroformyl-lO-phenylphenothiophos-phine 5,5, 10-trioxide with aromatic diamines such as 4,4 -diaminodiphenyl ether and 4,4 -diaminodiphenyl-methane, and bisphenols such as 4,4 -dihydroxybiphe-nyl and 4,4 -dihydroxydiphenylmethane, respectively [159]. These polymers are soluble in polar aprotic solvents and also exhibit good heat and fire resistance. Phosphorus containing high performance polymers are shown in Table 6. [Pg.47]

Acetonitrile and hydrogen cyanide are hy-products that may he recovered for sale. Acetonitrile (CH3CN) is a high polarity aprotic solvent used in DNA synthesizers, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and electrochemistry. It is an important solvent for extracting butadiene from C4 streams. Table 8-1 shows the specifications of acrylonitrile, HCN, and acetonitrile. ... [Pg.218]

The thin backweb, typically 0.2 mm thick with a porosity of 60 percent yields excellent electrical resistance values of 50 rafl cm2, permitting further optimization of high-performance battery constructions. These require very thin electrodes due to the overproportionally increasing polarization effects at higher current densities and consequently also low distances most modern versions have separators only 0.6 mm thick. Such narrow spacings enforce microporous separation ... [Pg.259]

In the search of high-performance SOFC anode, doped ceria have been evaluated as possible anode materials [9,10]. Comparing Ni-samaria-doped ceria (SDC) with Ni-YSZ, the Ni-SDC anode exhibits higher open-circuit voltages and a lower degree of polarization with either methanol as the fuel, as shown in Fig. 5, or methane as the fuel, as shown in Fig. 6. It was found that the depolarization ability of the anode is associated with the catalytic activity, the electrical conductivity, and the oxygen ionic conductivity of the anode materials [9]. It was also found that the anodic polarization and electro-catalytic activity strongly depend on the Ni content in the anode, and the optimum result for the Ni-SDC anode is achieved with 60... [Pg.98]

Most of the reported methods of analysis of valproic acid and its sodium salt in biological fluids rely on the use of chromatography, especially gas chromatography, although high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is also reported. Other methods, such as flow injection analysis, enzyme-immunoassay, fluorescence-polarization capillary electrophoresis, and potentiometry are sometimes used. The reported methods can be classified as follows. [Pg.228]
