Poisons, inhalation

CAUTION, Doth the vapour and the liquid dimethyl sulphate are highly poisonous. Inhalation of the vapour may lead to giddiness and even to more serious results. The cold liquid is easily absorbed through the skin, with toxic results. If the dimethyl sulphate is accidentally splashed upon the hands, wash immediately... [Pg.669]

Shipment nd Stora.ge, Sulfur monochloride is minimally corrosive to carbon steel and iron when dry. If it is necessary to avoid discoloration caused by iron sulfide formation or chloride stress cracking, 310 stainless steel should be used. Sulfur monochloride is shipped in tank cars, tank tmcks, and steel dmms. When wet, it behaves like hydrochloric acid and attacks steel, cast iron, aluminum, stainless steels, copper and copper alloys, and many nickel-based materials. Alloys of 62 Ni—28 Mo and 54 Ni—15 Cr—16 Mo are useful under these conditions. Under DOT HM-181 sulfur monochloride is classified as a Poison Inhalation Hazard (PIH) Zone B, as well as a Corrosive Material (DOT Hazard Class B). Shipment information is available (140). [Pg.138]

DOT CLASSIFICATION 9 Label CLASS 9 (NA 9260) DOT Class 4.1 Label Flammable SoUd (UN 1309) DOT Class 4.3 Label Dangerous When Wet (UN 1396) SAFETY PROFILE Although aluminum is not generally regarded as an industrial poison, inhalation of finely divided powder has been reported to cause pulmonary fibrosis. Anthrax is an acutely infectious and deadly disease. In nature it generally occurs in cattle or sheep, but it can be equally deadly to man. If contaminated meat is accidentally handled it can produce coal-black malignant skin ulcers which lead to blood poisoning. Inhaled it is even more deadly. The tiniest of doses can produce, in a matter of hours, a" choking cough, difficulty in breathing, and a high fever in nine cases out of ten, death will follow soon after. It was this latter form of the disease which most interested Porton. [Pg.44]

Carbon monoxide is quite Stable in the atomosphere and is probably converted to CO2, but the rate of this conversion (not known exactly) is low. Its a poisonous inhalent and no other toxic gaseous air pollutant is found at such relatively high concentrations in the urban atmosphere. [Pg.14]

Toxic gases are also poison inhalation hazards, see Gases and Class 2, p.l04. [Pg.256]

Being involved in, through action or omission, a hazardous material reportable incident, as described in 49 CFR 171.15 or 171.16, involving a highway route controlled quantity of certain radioactive materials (Class 7), any quantity of certain explosives (Class 1, Division 1.1, 1.2, or 1.3), or any quantity of certain poison inhalation hazard materials (Zone A or B). [Pg.372]

Failure to indicate poison inhalation hazard on a shipping paper 172.203(m) 2,500. [Pg.460]

Subsidiary corrosive placards are required for certain shipments of uranimn hexafluoride. Materials subject to the poison-inhalation hazard shipping paper description, and materials which have a subsidiaiy risk of being dangerous when wet require subsidiaiy placards. Other subsidiary placards are permitted, but not required and... [Pg.509]

Any interstate carrier with vehicles less than 10,000 pounds GVWR transporting high explosives, poison inhalation materials, or highway route controlled quantities of radioactive materials, per 387.9(4). [Pg.442]

Transporting packages requiring poisonTtoxic or poison - inhalation hazardTtoxic - inhalation hazard label(s) in the same vehicle with foodstuffs, feed, or other edible materials intended for consumption by humans or animals constitutes an out-of-service condition, unless othen/vise excepted. [Pg.616]
