Research Fellowships which are awarded to graduate students pursuing research in Plastics engineering and polymer science and Plastics Pioneers Association Technology Scholarships which go to students preparing for a career in plastics. [Pg.17]

Raymond B. Seymour is known to many friends and associates as Ray, a Plastics Pioneer, as Dad to his four children and by a variety of grandfatherly terms by his 10 grandchildren, but to his former students including, Peter Tsang, Jose Sosa, Don Owen, Clem LaSada, Hubert A. Wood, Murray Clark, G. Allan Stahl, David... [Pg.11]

As stated in the first few chapters, much of the early developments in engineering plastics were associated with nylon-66. Nylon-66 fibers, which were invented by pioneer polymer scientist. Dr. W. H. Carothers, were one of the many polymers that were essential for the war effort by the Allied Forces during World War II. [Pg.1]

In the field of industrial chemicals, among others. Dr. Toy and his associates pioneered Stauffer Chemical Company s Fyrol flame retardants and were instrumental in the generation of new flame retardant plasticizers like the Fhosflex types and new industrial hydraulic fluids such as the Fyrquel and Fyrgard series. Most of these products have attained annual production volumes in excess of one million pounds. [Pg.294]

Roy is a member of the American Chemical Society, tile American Institute of Chemists, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Sigmi Xi and has been awarded honorary doctoral degrees by Ohio State University, Washington College and Memchester College. He is the recipient of the John Scott Medal (1951), the National Association of Manufacturers Modern Pioneer Medal (1965), and the Chemist Pioneer award of the American Institute of Chemists (1964). He was inducted into the Plastics Hall of Fame (1973), named a Pioneer in Polymer Science in Polymer News (1985) and inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame (1986). [Pg.245]

E E. Bailey, Jr., is a Senior Research Scientist at Union Carbide Chemicals and Plastics Company Inc., in South Charleston, West Virginia. He is the coauthor or coeditor of five books and 68 journal articles and book chapters, and holds 50 U.S. patents on polymer syntheses and processes. Dr. Bailey is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemists, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and New York Academy of Sciences, a member of the American Physical Society and Society of Rheology, and a Director of the American Chemical Society. In 1987, he was given the American Institute of Chemists Chemical Pioneer Award for his work on poly(alkylene oxides). Dr. Bailey received the A-B. (1948) degree from Amherst College, Amherst, Massachusetts, and M.S. (1950) and Ph.D. (1952) degrees from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. [Pg.273]
