Siting Problems Some scholars are also concerned about how shifting climate patterns or melting permafrost will affect the buildings of the plants themselves, or change the way plant builders have historically chosen sites, i.e., near bodies of water that have historically been replenished by significant snowfall (Bulygina et al. 2011 Nelson etal. 2001).

Corrosion. Copper and selected copper aHoys perform admirably in many hostile environments. Copper aHoys with the appropriate corrosion resistance characteristics are recommended for atmospheric exposure (architectural and builder s hardware), for use in fresh water supply (plumbing lines and fittings), in marine appHcations (desalination equipment and biofouling avoidance), for industrial and chemical plant equipment (heat exchangers and condensers), and for electrical/electronic appHcations (coimectors and semiconductor package lead-frames) (30) (see Packaging). 

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) has a 30-year history of involvement with process safety for chemical processing plants. Through its strong ties with process designers, builders, operators, safety professionals and academia, the AIChE has enhanced communication and fostered improvement in the high safety standards of the industry. AIChE publications and symposia have become an information resource for the chemical engineering profession on the causes of accidents and means of prevention. 

For a heat engine like a steam turbine in an electric power plant the low temperature is determined by the outdoor environment. This temperature is about 300 K. Engineering considerations limit the high temperature to about 800 K. The maximum efficiency according to Carnot is 0.63 or 63 percent. No matter how skilled the builders of a steam turbine, if the temperatures are 300 K and 800 K, the efficiency will never exceed 63 percent. When you realize that the efficiency can never be larger than about 63 percent, a realizable efficiency of 50 percent looks quite good. 

Installation of a new plant may cause serious disruption of the user s ongoing business, and the extent of this disruption should be determined before it is too late. Apart from the installation of the plant itself, there is the associated builders work and the temporary disconnection of other services. The use of factory-built packaged equipment helps to reduce this nuisance. 

In California one of the larger electric car builders was U.S. Electricar in the 1970s. It converted the Renault LeCar to electric power and by 1994, the company went public, with 300 workers in three plants. Its Los Angeles factory converted Geo Prizms and Chevy S-10 pickups, but by 1995 the company had large losses and complaints of defective cars.

What problems do the builders of a chemical plant to produce ammonia have to consider when they start to build such a plant ... 

A builder is a compound that removes calcium and magnesium ions normally present in water, and, as a result, reduces the concentration of surfactants required to carry out the detergent action. Currently, the builder mainly used in practice is sodium tripolyphosphate. However, phosphates are plant nutrients and provoke eutrophication in lakes and streams which receive municipal wastewater contaminated with detergent residuals. Consequently, the use of phosphates in detergents has been restricted.
