Pipes sealing tape

To investigate a vertical distribution of a chemical, a sediment column is divided into sections with appropriate thickness. The sediment column taken in a pipe should be refrigerated in an ice-cooled container, transported to the laboratory, and removed carefully on to a clean tray so that there is as little disturbance as possible to the soil core structure. In the case of a column in which there is little soil moisture and it tends to collapse, the soil should be pushed out to each required thickness and carved off. It is also possible to take a sediment column up to a 30-cm depth using a pipe that is connected to cylinders (5-cm height) with sealing tape. In this case, the sample in each 5-cm fraction can be obtained as it is, after removing the tape. [Pg.903]

Filter Stick. A typical filter stick for solution filtration is shown in Figure 4. A section of teflon tubing (2-3 ft) is pushed over the Luer fitting of an observation port (Popper Sons), and conventional filter paper is then attached to the end of the observation port as shown. Half inch teflon sealing tape (Aldrich - this may also be available from a local plumbers supplier as pipe dope) is first wrapped around the base of the observation port, filter paper is then wrapped around the outside of the teflon tape, and one or two loops of nichrome wire (20 gauge, 32 thou) are used to secure the filter paper in place. The teflon tape provides a bed into which the wire can bite and seal the system. Any filter paper may be used, but we have found water resistant fine filter papers such as Whatman s 50 to be most satisfactory, except for gummy solids which may require a faster paper. [Pg.10]

Fluoropolymers possess excellent thermal stability and are nearly completely inert to chemical attack. Polytetrafluoroethylene (FIFE), discovered in 1938 by Roy Plunkett at I.E. du Pont de Nemours and Company, is the world s most used fluoropolymer. In pipe sealing, anaerobics are high-performance alternatives to poly tetrafluoroethylene tape or pipe dopes, and have been approved for portable water systems worldwide. Indeed, Loctite s original Pipe Sealant with Teflon has been copied by many companies and become an industry standard. Anaerobics also lubricate a joint during assembly and can seal a wide range of thread styles and designs. [Pg.14]

Concrete pipe seals - Butyl sealant tapes and neoprene rubber are frequently used as concrete pipe seals. The neoprene seals have very good chemical resistance. [Pg.292]

Tape may be made by a similar process. In this case the lubricant selected is a non-volatile oil. The preform is placed in the extruder and a rod extruded. The rod is then passed between a pair of calender rolls at about 60-80°C. The unsintered tape is often used for lapping wire and for making lapped tube. Sintering is carried out after fabrication. The current most important application of unsintered tape is in pipe-thread sealing. [Pg.371]

Another material used on pipe threads is sealant tape. This tape, which is made of Teflon, provides an effective means of sealing pipe connections and eliminates the necessity of torquing connections to excessively high values in order to prevent leaks. It also provides for ease of maintenance whenever it is necessary to disconnect pipe joints. The tape is applied over the male threads, leaving the first thread exposed. After the tape is pressed firmly against the threads, the joint is connected. [Pg.623]

Initially, the as-received pump could not pass a 13.8-bar (200 psig) static pressure test at ambient temperature. Consequently, the pump was returned to the manufacturer for extensive seal modifications. Upon receiving the modified pump, the unit was placed into service for a hot shakedown test with C30 oil at 175 psig pressure under the present experimental setup. The modified seal continued to leak at a small but acceptable rate on the order of 1 g/min. However, leak problems were encountered in the threaded seal of the stator and the pump housing. The stator was resealed with a thick Teflon tape and a high-temperature pipe sealant that initially slowed the total system leaks to less than 50 g/h. [Pg.287]

B. Pipe Joints. Good joints suitable for vacuum or pressure applications can be made by means of tapered pipe thread joints in heavy-walled tubing. Unlike all of the joints discussed so far, the seal is made in the threads of this joint. The threaded portions of both the male and female pipe joint are tapered, and as a result the inner and outer threads are wedged into each other when they are screwed together (Fig. 10.9). Metal tubing is often terminated in a pipe thread. This is an accurately tapered and threaded unit, and an assembly must be well tightened with a pair of wrenches in order to seat the joint. Small leaks can be sealed by wrapping the inner member with a thin film of Teflon tape, available as Teflon Tape (du Pont) or Tape Dope, before assembling the joint. [Pg.660]

Plumbing between the regulator and flowmeter and between the flowmeter and the delivery tube is most conveniently effected with /4-in. o.d. copper tubing.
