For lifting items such as steel drums and pipes, chain slings can be fitted with special hooks. Figure 19.18 shows pipe hooks, which are used in pairs. 

Conduit is supplied in 3.75 m lengths and typical sizes are 16, 20, 25 and 32 mm. Conduit tubing and fittings are supplied in a black enamel finish for internal use or hot galvanized finish for use on external or damp installations. A wide range of fittings is available and the conduit is fixed using saddles or pipe hooks, as shown in Fig. 3.47.

The reduced rated static hook loads shall be expressed as percentages of the maximum rated static hook loads. Thus, the portable mast ratings in Standard 4D include a safety factor of 2 to allow for wind and impact loads, and require the manufacturer to specify further capacity reductions due to setback.

Elevator links The elevator is a hinged clamp attached to the hook and is used to hoist drill pipe, tubing, and casing. The actual clamp is in a pair of links that in turn attaches to a bail supported on the hook. 

The relief valve and/or chamber release valve must be vented outdoors via hard pipe on an upward angle to insure no trapped hydrogen gas. One can even hook an inert gas line to this venting line for purging capabilities to ensure no trapped gas.

Thermoplastics consist of long chains of molecules, in the case of PE these are unbranched. Many of these chains together form a tangle which is more difficult to unravel the more branched the chains are. The branches are like hooks which cause the molecules to catch. Under the influence of relatively small external forces chains and parts of chains can slide across each other. PE is for instance used to make containers, chemical tubing and blow-moulded bottles. Some other thermoplastics are polypropylene (crates), polyvinyl chloride PVC (pipes) and polystyrene (foam).

If inert gas lines are hooked into the EtO pipes near the EtO source, inert gas can sweep the EtO from the lines so that they will be either filled with the inert gas or be empty. Inverting the filters and flushing the lines with inert gas can keep any EtO from being collected in the filter housing—that also eliminates the exposure involved in changing filters. Filter changing is probably the major source of exposure for all types...
