Roof Girders

The main roof girders of the BEA engineering base and workshop at London s Heathrow airport are aluminium sprayed. 

The roof girders are simply supported at both ends with loads from roof beams applied at quarter points.

A series of separate SDOF dynamic analyses are performed for each of the primary structural components. For example, a typical roof system consists of a roof slab supported on structural steel roof beams which are in turn supported by roof girders. Separate SDOF dynamic analyses are performed for the slab, beams and girders using the reaction time history of the supported member as loading input 10... 

A remarkable feature of this room in building BW 5b is the intricate construction of the water pipes, laid in the hooks fastened to the diagonal roof girders, visible in Fig. 20. 

Floating Roofs These must have a seal between the roof and the tank shell. If not protec ted by a fixed roof, they must have drains for the removal of water, and the tank shell must have a wind girder to avoid distortion. An industiy has developed to retrofit existing tanks with floating roofs. Much detail on the various types of tank roofs is given in manufacturers literature. Figure 10-182 shows types. These roofs cause less condensation buildup and are highly recommended. 

At the start to walk stooping is rather a joke, but it is a joke that soon wears ojf. I am handicapped by being exceptionally tall, but when the roof falls to four feet or less it is a tough job for anybody except a dwarf or a child. You have not only got to bend double, you have also got to keep your head up all the while so as to see the beams and girders and dodge them when they come. 

Ceiling joist- One of a series of parallel framing members used to support ceiling loads and supported in turn by larger beams, girders or bearing walls. Also called roof joists.

Based on the experience with the single-layer foil canopy of the Thermal Baths in Prien (see Fig. 6.9), a single-layer ETFE-foil roof was built for the entrance area of the information centre of the Walchensee Power Station in 2001 (Fig. 6.12). Aluminium tubes serve as substructure of the almost planar, mechanically pre-stressed foil membrane. These tubes run at a distance of 1.25 m and are fixed on arched gluelam girders. The foil membranes are attached to the aluminium tubes via welded foil strips on the ETFE foils. The ETFE roof assembled into one piece has a total area of about 400 ml...
