Pesticides terminology

There is a strong relationship between the amount of pesticide appHed and the amount detected in soil and water. Some background information on pesticide usage and terminology is useful in understanding their impact on the environment. [Pg.212]

It should be realized that with the exception of a few groups of chemicals (such as some organophosphorous and carbamate pesticides as well as some polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), precise mechanistic information on their toxic effects are scarce. In realizing that the exact molecular mechanism is not known for most chemicals the term mode of action is used to describe toxicides that appear to be similar albeit the mechanism is not known in detail, see also Section 4.2.6. For several groups of endocrine disrupters this terminology seems appropriate. [Pg.383]

Specifications for formulated or technical pesticides must be based on satisfactory analytical methods. Collaborative study methods that are acceptable to a number of international organizations are available through CIPAC-AOAC cooperation. Internationally, more effective use of current analytical methodology could result from increased efforts towards harmonization of methods and terminology. [Pg.204]

Development of harmonized pesticide exposure assessment terminology. FRAMEWORK... [Pg.374]

The purpose of this paper is to describe flie policies and procedures of dietary exposure analysis and risk assessment in these two portions of die world, to highlight their differences, and to demonstrate how they both aim for the same goal, a safe food supply. Unless otherwise noted, all references to exposure in this paper pertain to the intake of pesticide residues in food. Nomenclature in other parts of the world refers to dietary intake, but the general concept is the same, regardless of the terminology. Likewise, all references to risk and risk assessment pertain to the risk assessment with regard to dietary exposure to pesticide residues. [Pg.355]
