Acrylonitrile is used in the manufacture of acrylic fibers and in the plastic surface coatings and adhesive industries. It is also used as a pesticide/fumigant. It is a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of antioxidants, pharmaceutical dyes, surface-active agents, and in reactions requiring the cyanoethyl group. 

Dichloroethane is utilized as a solvent, pesticide, fumigant, gasoline additive, and in the synthesis of vinyl chloride. 1,1-Dichloroethane is utilized in relatively small quantities, primarily in the chemical, agricultural, and petroleum industries. In the past, 1,1-dichloroethane was used as an anesthetic. 

For each herbal drug preparation, a comprehensive specification must be submitted. This must be established on the basis of recent scientific data and must give particulars of the characteristics, identification tests, and purity tests. This has to be done, for example, by the appropriate chromatographic methods. If deemed necessary by the results of the analysis of the starting material, tests on microbiological quality, residues of pesticides, fumigation agents, solvents, and toxic metals have to be carried out. Radioactivity should be tested if there are reasons for concerns. Quantitative determination (assay) of markers or of substances with known therapeutic activity is required. The content must be indicated with the lowest possible tolerance. The test methods must be described in detail.

Manufacturers of pesticides/fumigants are required to register each pesticide and each producing facility with the EPA and to report each year to the EPA all types and amounts produced during each year. Production and filling plants for pesticide/fumi-gant gases are subject to inspection by EPA inspectors.
