No hazard of high voltage, simplifying maintenance and repair and permitting collection of flammable dusts... 

Specialty rotors permit ordinary botde centrifuges to achieve some of the results previously considered possible only in ultracentrifuges. A modified zonal rotor, shown in Figure 9, permits collection of sediment using continuous addition of feed and discharge of centrate. 

Figure 2.39 describes an experiment involving cannulation of the bile ducts of guinea pigs to permit collection of bile salts flowing from the liver. The data demonstrate two points. First, bile salt introduced into the gut can be transported to the liver and then secreted through the bile duct. Second, the bile salt is absorbed not by the proximal small intestine, but by the distal small intestine. 

The advantages of the thermal conductivity detector are its simplicity, its large linear dynamic range (about five orders of magnitude), its general response to both organic and inorganic species, and its nondestructive character, which permits collection of solutes after detection. The chief limitation of the thermal conductivity detector is its relatively low sensitivity. Other detectors exceed this sensitivity by factors of lO to 10. ... 

The most powerful ultraviolet spcctrophotomctric detectors arc array-based instruments as described in Section 7E-3 and Figure 13-25, Several manufagturers offer such instruments, which permit collection of an entire spectrum in approximately 1 second. Ilius, spectral data for each chromatographic peak can be collected and stored as it appears at the end of the column. One form of presentation of the spectral data, which is helpful in identification of species and for choosing conditions for quantitative determination, is a three-dimensional plot such as that shown in Figure 28-9. Here, spectra were obtained at successive 5-second intervals. The appearance and disappearance of each of the three steroids in the eluent can be seen. 

Sampling by impaction permits collection of aerosols aecording particle size and is especially useful in the study of distribution of the concentrations of pollutants with particle size. Different types of impactors are used for this purpose. 

This special Noack approach — permitting collection of all volatiles - was opportune. Among oflier applications, it presented the ability to evaluate flie relationship of phosfdumis volatility to oil volatility and/or phosphorus concentration in flie fresh oil. 

A rapid scan rate (166-500 lines per second) is generally required for crawling amoebae. For best results, the signal should be sufficiently bright to permit collection of a minimum of ten slices ofa512x512 image at 4-5 s intervals. 

The satisfactory performance of the general requalification programme of the plant throughout the year permitted collecting a maximum of data on the operation of the reactor, the monitoring systems, and the equipment of the water-steam circuits while the power level (90 % NP) reached at the end of the year permitted the performance of three specific tests. 

The CCD detector permits not only simultaneous background correction but complete correction of spectral interferences such as structured background from molecular species such as OH and NO. The resolution permits collection of the spectra from these species and removal of them from the absorbance of the sample. Direct-line overlap can also be corrected, if the matrix has an additional absorption line within the registered spectral range of the detector. Direct-line overlap is rare and usually is due to line-rich matrices such as Fe, so the system can reliably correct for the direct overlap of Fe on Zn, for example.
