Permethrin lotion

A third trial used Paranix applied to 50 infected children twice over 9 days. The results were compared to a control group of equal number using a standard permethrin lotion. The spray was more successful than permethrin, with cure rates of 82% and 42% (Burgess et al., 2010). 

By contrast, sandfly blood feeding and survival rate of both feed and unfed flies were significantly reduced by permethrin-treated dogs after 1 week suggesting topical application of permethrin lotion can have a relatively immediate effect [38]. 

The agent of choice for scabies is permerthrin 5% (Elimite) cream. Alternative agents in subjects who cannot use permethrin are crotamiton 10% (Eurax) and oral ivermectin (Stromectal) 200 mcg/kg as a single dose. To initiate the treatment with permerthrin, the skin should be scrubbed in a warm soapy bath to remove the scabs. The permerthrin lotion should then be applied to the whole body, avoiding the face, mucous membranes, and eyes, and left on for 8 to 14 hours. A single application eradicates 97% of scabies. All close contacts should be treated appropriately. The pruritus associated with scabies may persist for 2 to 4 weeks because of the remnants of mite parts in the skin. 

Selenium sulphide, coal tar, ketoconazole and salicylic acid are agents that can be used in dandruff. Permethrin is an insecticide indicated in the eradication of head lice. Permethrin is available as alcoholic or aqueous lotions. 

Permethrin is a broad-spectrum insecticide used in a variety of agricultural and commercial/residential applications. It is also used to control termites, ectoparasites on animals, and head lice and scabies (in combination with sulfur) in humans. Permethrin is available as a dust, smoke, wettable powder, emu-Isifiable concentrate, concentrate for ultra low volume application and as a lotion (for treatment of head lice). 

Each fluid ounce of lotion contains permethrin 280 mg (1%) as its active ingredient and balsam fir Canada, cetyl alcohol, citric acid, FD C yellow No. 6, fragrance, hydrolyzed animal protein, hydroxyethyl cellulose, polyoxyethylene 10 cetyl ether, propylene glycol, stearalko-nium chloride, water, isopropyl alcohol 5.6 g (20%), meth-ylparaben 56 mg (0.2%), and propylparaben 22 mg (0.08%) as its inactive ingredients.
