Permanent-press resin

PERMANENT-PRESS RESIN. A thermosetting resin used as a textile impregnate or fiber coating to impart crease resistance and permanent hot-creasing to suitings, dress fabrics, etc. Chemicals such as formaldehyde and maleic anhydride are the basis of these products. The resin is cured after the fabric has been tailored into a garment. A permanent-press fabric that requires no resin has been developed (a blend of polyester with cotton or rayon). [Pg.1226]

Delayed-Cure Catalysts for Permanent Press Resins... [Pg.78]

These aminohydroxy compounds in the form of their salts are extremely useful as catalysts for permanent press resins. The utilization of these compounds alone or in combination with metal salts such as magnesium chloride or zinc nitrate promotes balanced curing action with a wide range of textile resins. These catalysts provide ... [Pg.78]

Excellent results may be obtained by the application of CNC AQUAFILM 14 either alone or in combination with generally accepted finishing aids such as permanent press resins and softeners. [Pg.155]

MYKON EJ softener is very effective when used with permanent press resin finishes. It improves sewability and tear strength of cotton, rayon, and polyester/cellulosic blends without effecting chlorine resistance, lightfastness or scorch resistance of the finished fabric. MYKON EJ emulsion also softens the treated fabric. [Pg.538]

Partially polymerized resins of urea are used by the textile industry to impart permanent-press properties to fabrics (see also Textiles, finishing). [Pg.310]

Amino resins are often used to modify the properties of others materials. These resins are added during the processing of diverse products such as textiles (to impart permanent press... [Pg.759]

Uses. About 35-40% of the methanol made is converted to formaldehyde. That s not because the embalming business is so good. Formaldehyde is a feedstock for amino and phenolic resins, which are used as adhesives in plywood, and in the automotive and appliance industry to make parts (all the agitators in washing machines used to be made out of phenolic resins). It is used as feedstock for hexamethylene tetramine, used in electronic plastics for pentaerythritol, used for making enamel coatings and for floor polish and inks for butanediol, a chemical intermediate and for acetic acid, which is widely used itself as a feedstock and solvent and warrants its own treatrnent later on. In the textile business, formaldehyde is used to make fire retardants, mildew resistant linens, and permanent press clothing. [Pg.180]

Extensive use of these resins is found in textile and paper-treating and surface coatings. Many types of clothing also can be given a permanent press by an amino resin treatment. Amino resins can be molded and are used for radio cabinets, buttons, switch plate covers, dishware, and Formica. [Pg.365]

Uses. Manufacture of formaldehyde resins, which are used as adhesives in particle board, plywood, and insulating materials countertops and wall paneling coating to fabrics to impart permanent press characteristics manufacture of rubber, photographic film, leather, cosmetics, embalming fluids, insulation disinfectants and fumigants... [Pg.347]

REFORM brand of textile reactant (as an aqueous solution with 60% active solids) is used to reduce free formaldehyde levels on durable-press fabrics by 40-70%. When REFORM textile reactant is combined with currently used durable-press resins, not only is free formaldehyde permanently reduced, but also the physical properties of the cured fabrics remain essentially unaltered, even after storage for one year. [Pg.79]

REFORM textile reactant permanently reduces free formaldehyde levels on cured fabric when used with any of the usual durable-press resin systems--glyoxal, carbamate, or urea-formaldehyde. It works with both 100% cotton and cotton/polyester blended fabrics. [Pg.79]

CNC POLYSOFT PE is the product to use in conjunction with thermosetting resins for durable permanent press work. [Pg.190]
