A chemical or physical condition that has the potential for causing damage to people, property, or the environment... 

The average basal metabolic rate for humans is about 65 keal/h, or 1600 keal/day. Obviously, the rate varies for different people depending ori sex, age, weight, and physical condition. As a rule, the BMR is Jow er for older people than for younger people, is lower for females than for males, and is lower for people in good physical condition than for those who are out of shape and overweight. A BMR substantially above the expected value indicates an unusually rapid metabolism, perhaps caused by a fever or some biochemical abnormality. 

As these accounts show, people s self-esteem and sense of integrity are deeply connected to their ability to control their personal problems. The people I spoke with had difficulty accepting fully the idea that emotional illnesses are no different from physiological problems such as heart disease or diabetes. It may be comforting to hear that antidepressant medications correct chemical imbalances in the brain just as insulin controls diabetes. But most of those I interviewed assigned different meanings to mental and physical conditions. When asked directly, they affirmed that psychiatric drugs are far more likely than other medications to make them feel bad about themselves ... 

Relatively large dosages can be prescribed for young people, people with good constitutions and people in good physical condition when they suffer from acute excess syndromes. Small dosages are prescribed for elderly people, people with weak constitutions and people who suffer from chronic diseases. 

Individual needs vary, depending on age, physical condition, activity, diet, and climate. A normally active person needs at least 2 quarts of water daily just for drinking. Children, nursing mothers, and ill people need more. Very hot temperatures can double the amount of water needed. 

It is important for young people to understand that just because someone abstains from alcohol or recreational drugs, he or she is not necessarily substance-free. Many young people take responsibly prescribed psychoactive medication to help them cope with a variety of physical conditions (pain, for example), behavioral problems (impulsivity, for example), or psychological states (depression, for example). The first two claims characterize a physicalist worldview, or what I call physicalism. Condition (r) expresses the physicalist idea that all God needed to do to make the universe is to distribute the fundamental physical properties in space and time and make the laws of fundamental physics. All facts about macroscopic objects, their colors and behaviors, and facts about people, their thoughts and experiences, and truths about causation and the special sciences, and so on are metaphysically entailed by the fundamental physical facts and laws. Condition (2) says that the physical laws are closed and complete in the sense that, given the complete fundamental physical state at t and the laws, whether or not E occurs at t, or its chance of occurring, is completely determined. 1 assume that whatever causation is, condition (2) implies the casual completeness of physics in that E t ) s physical causes at t are sufficient to determine its occurrence (or the chances of its occurrence). Condition (2) is a consequence of (r), and it is possible to derive (r) from (2) and some other plausible premises, but I separate them since nomological and causal closure will figure importantly in our discussion. ... 

People vary in size, weight, strength, and physical condition. Physical condition includes general physical fitness, strength and conditioning of muscles, condition of joints, and other factors. Back muscles reacting to a lifted load compress the vertebrae of the spine. The intervertebral tissues have limits. Some studies have estimated the compressive load limits of spinal elements, but the capacity for an individual and particular spinal locations will vary. It is difficult to predict where and under what conditions an individual will experience pain, strain a muscle or experience some other form of injury. 

Physiological and Medical Controls A primary means for reducing heat strain is ensuring that people replace lost body salts and water. Medical examinations may help identify those who are greater risks for heat stress illness because of age, physical condition, or existing health problems. Administrative procedures may require keeping high risk people out of heat stress environments. 

People are not alike. They differ in size, shape, strength, reaction time, physical condition, health, and physiological performance. They differ in ability to perform actions and in knowledge, skills and abilities They differ in the ability to form judgments and make decisions. They differ in attitudes and beliefs, in emotions and in other ways. 

Safely efforts have been evolving from the early years of industry. The initial measures were directed to prevent major technical accidents in industrial processes by safety rules and disciplinary actions. Accordingly, new safety legislation was set in industrialized countries to force employers to organize safety and to take precautions and engineering against hazards. Accidents were considered to be caused either by unsafe acts of people or unsafe physical conditions of the nature or the technological systems (Heinrich 1959). 

Evidence is also collected about the people involved in the collision. Blood samples may be taken to determine the physical condition of the drivers. Driver qualifications and experience are noted. Logbooks of commercial drivers are obtained. Photographs of impact injuries are taken. Statements are obtained from any witnesses to the collision as well as occupants of the vehicles and responding police officers. Video evidence from speed cameras or security cameras on nearby buildings is also obtained.
