Paste Additives

In one instance when the final cooling was omitted the temperature continued to rise and a large amount of hydrogen chloride was evolved. The residue in the flask was a thick paste. Addition of a portion of the paste to water caused nitrobenzene to separate. However, this batch was not suitable for condensation. [Pg.98]

The most important characteristic of cement is its pore structure and aqueous phase hence, the microstructure of the hardened cement paste via the pore system. It is highly alkaline (pH >13) due to rapid and almost quantitative dissolution of Na and K salts from the cement clinker. The porosity of the paste comprises interconnected and isolated pores, the pore sizes of which are important to the strength and dimensional stability of cement products. Different types of cement are used to meet different performance criteria. Properties can be estimated from compositions and fineness (i.e., particle size and size distribution). In the past, additives... [Pg.220]

For various reasons, the establishment of a viable hydrogen systems analysis program will not be an easy task. For one thing, the DOE has had relatively little experience with effective systems analysis in the past. Additionally, such analysis programs are expensive. Also, the results of sound systems analysis can upset vested interests. [Pg.124]

Today, the abuse of inhalants is still a major problem. Inhalants are within easy reach, much as they were in the past. Additionally, in many cases they are still used as substitutes for other drugs that are illegal to purchase or too expensive to buy. These ties with the past use of inhalants makes further exploration of today s trends all the more interesting. [Pg.25]

Four electrodes method was used to measure the surface D.C. conductivity of the samples. The electrical contacts between the leading wires and the pellet surface were made by gold sputtering decomposition followed by high purity gold paste addition. The... [Pg.400]

Carbopol resins are used to thicken and suspend insolubles in this hand dishwashing paste. Additionally, because of their high yield value, the use of Carbopol resins will increase the foam stability. [Pg.37]

Two forms of barium sulfate are used for preparation of negative pastes Blanc Fix and Barytes [39]. Blanc Fix is produced by precipitating BaS04 from solutions of barium salts and H2SO4 and is characterised by mean particle size of about 1 pm. Barytes is ground and purified natural mineral ore. Its particles are sized between 3 and 5 pm. The larger size of Barytes particles makes it less efficient as negative paste additive. It is presumed, however. [Pg.344]

The calomel electrode was introduced by Ostwald in 1890. It is an electrode of the second kind (cf. Chap. II.9). As a reference electrode of fixed, well-known and very reproducible potential, it is still important today. In the simplest case, a single drop of mercury is placed in a small tube and is covered by mercury(I) chloride (calomel Hg2Cl2) (see Fig. III.2.2a). Another possibility is to fill a small glass tube with a paste of mercury, mercury(I) chloride and potassium chloride solution (Fig. III.2.2b). The paste is in contact with a potassium chloride solution of constant activity. Mostly, a saturated potassium chloride solution is used and the paste additionally contains solid potassium chloride. The electrode net reaction can be formulated in the following way ... [Pg.294]

ISO standard 21093 shows character and data for this oil. In the past, addition of turpentine oil was used for adulteration later the essential oil of the needles of Pinus maritima was used, as the composition showed very close data of compounds. Chiral analysis gives helpful results. Kreis et al. (1991) reported chiral ratio in monoterpenes as follows (lR,5R)-(+)-a-pinene (44%) (15,55)-(-)-a-pinene (56%) (lR,5R)-(+)-p-pinene (2%) (15,55)-(-)-p-plnene (98%) and (47 )-(+)-limonene (40%) (45)-(-)-limonene (60%). [Pg.732]

With this in mind, a hybrid collector electrode material with CNTs was demonstrated. The highly conductive nanotubes provided sufficient current collection for pseudocapacitive [50] and EDLC devices [47]. In both cases, electrodes made of CNTs deposited on lightweight paper substrates replaced the heavy metal collectors and carbon paste additives and enhanced the specific capacitance of the overall system, compared with results from CNTs deposited on metal substrates. A CNT paper electrode of 30 Wh.kg" and 200 kW.kgr was demonstrated [47]. The downside is that CNTs offer low energy density compared to AC materials and cost more than metal collector substrates. [Pg.192]

The pony mixer is the traditional unit. A preweighed amount of leady oxide is placed into the mixing tub, and this is wetted first with water and then with sulfuric acid solution. Dry paste additives, if any, are premixed into the leady oxide before water addition. These additives can be plastic fibers to enhance the mechanical strength of the dried paste, expanders to maintain negative-plate porosity in operation, and various other proprietary additives which ease processing or are believed to improve battery performance. Muher mixers are usually filled first with the water component, then the oxide, then the acid. [Pg.612]
