Parent line

A considerable amount of the gold that accumulates in the kidneys and liver of mammalian species is bound to MTs. This buildup of gold in the kidneys is accompanied by elevated levels of renal copper to form copper-rich, gold-bearing MTs. In cell lines that overproduce MT, there is commonly a resistance to the cytotoxic effects of gold compounds. This resistance is also seen often in parent lines that have been repeatedly exposed to gold complexes. The mechanisms of resistance include but are not limited to enhanced biosynthesis of MT [102]. [Pg.298]

Once the Tet-repressor clone has been obtained, it is helpful to compare its proliferation rate with the parental cell line to ensure a comparable duplication time. This will allow for a reliable comparison of data to that obtained from already performed drug treatments on the parental line or for the compliance with standardized protocols. [Pg.331]

An isolated cs plane or a random array of cs planes, known as the Wadsley defect, still gives rise to nonstoichiometry. Regularly recurring cs planes result in a homologous series of stoichiometric intermediate phases. Occurrence of such equidistant cs planes in a crystal indicates a cooperative mechanism. The formula of a cs phase depends on the cs plane index as well as the width of the parent slab between cs planes. If MO is the formula of the parent line phase, the formula of the homologous series of oxides resulting from cs may be represented as where n is the width (number of... [Pg.258]

Fig. 23.13 Shifts of the centers of gravity compared to the ionic parent line positions for the observed structures for double Rydberg resonances 6snp —> 26dn p ( ) and 6snp — 27sn p ( ) vs n n = 39-47 and 50. The average quantum defect is 4.1 for the 6snp series. The full line is the theoretical curve (from ref. 34). Concanavalin A (con A) has been reported to interact with specific membrane saccharide receptors and agglutinate a wide variety of transformed cells at low concentrations of the lectin without affecting the normal untransformed parent line (1,2). ... [Pg.76]

Hybrid vigor Offspring from parents of inbred parent lines result in higher yield. [Pg.173]

MAbs produced by immunizing with receptor transfectants must be screened by flow cytometry—first against receptor transfectants to select for immunore-active MAbs to the immunogen and then against the parental cell line to eliminate those immunoreactive antibodies recognizing determinants other than the transfected receptor. Mice will make antibodies to cell surface determinants other than the receptor of interest even when a syngeneic mouse cell line is used as the parental line for transfectants. [Pg.238]

In order to obtain hybrid seeds, self-pollination and pollination by a sibling plant must be avoided. It is sought to develop a female parental line accepting pollen from other lines (cross-pollination), without reproduction of its own line. This can be achieved directly through emasculation, i.e., elimination of the pollenbearing organ, usually at the expense of large labor requirements. Other methods can be used to induce male sterility. [Pg.1309]

The production of high-quality hybrid seeds does not only depend on the use of parental lines of superior class, but also on the degree of isolation of the cultivation field from other sunflower plantations, including wild varieties. The isolation conditions cannot be accurately established, in view of the role of insects as pollination agent, and the long viability period of pollen yet, recommendations have been made. [Pg.1310]

Special pulses containing one or several notches in their excitation profiles have been designed for purposes of solvent suppression. Obviously such pulses could be used also for suppression of parent lines in applications involving isotopi-cally diluted nuclei. One of the simplest experiments of this kind is the jump and return experiment [24] and corresponding higher order binomial pulses with alternating phases. Similarly to binomial excitation pulses these constant amplitude solvent suppression pulses create sidebands and excitation sidelobes. Corresponding amplitude modulated pulses [25,26] provide a better alternative. [Pg.7]
