Papulo-pustular

In patients with acne (Fig. 2.4), the chemical peels were performed with a 70% glycolic acid solution, for 2 to8 min. The number and frequency of the applications depended on the intensity of the clinical response. The most rapid improvement was observed in comedonic acne, in the papulo-pustular forms. An average of six applications were necessary (Fig. 2.5a, b).

Cyproterone acetate (CPA) is a progestational antiandrogen that blocks the androgen receptors. It is combined with ethinyl estradiol in an oral contraceptive formulation, which is indicated in female acne patients with a high level of seborrhea, therapy resistant papulo-pustular acne or acne conglobata not responding to other treatments. 

Papulo-pustular persistent centro-facial erythema associated with inflammatory papules and pustules (Figs. 17.4,17.5 and 17.6)... 

In papulo-pustular rosacea 25-30% salicylic acid peeling is utilized in association with systemic treatment with metronidazole or antibiotics and topical treatment as for erythrosis (Figs. 1715,1716 and i/.i/)-...

Isoconazole is mainly used for vaginal infections with Candida albicans. Contact dermatitis has been reported (14), including an unusual case with a papulo-pustular reaction (15). 

Tincture of iodine is a primary irritant and should be tested by the open method. Patch tests with iodine and potassium iodide may result in a nonspecific papulo-pustular reaction which must be differentiated from a contact allergic response. Patch tests with potassium iodide have been used in the diagnosis of dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) but the frequency and type of reactions expected in DH patients is neither sensitive nor specific. l,3-diodo-2-hydroxypropane, a white tincture of iodine used in Denmark for first aid, caused contact dermatitis in one patient (Hjorth 1972). He had a strong positive patch test, while 20 controls were negative. Contact allergy to iodine itself may exist, but has not been documented.
