Gaskets paper

These paper gaskets will look pale green-blue when viewed edge-on between the flanges. Dan says that their use has caused several fires at his plant for services below their rated 500°F temperature limit. [Pg.582]

Leaves are stripped for 30 minutes in the usual 2-quart wide-mouthed Mason jars. Instead of a waxed paper gasket, however, 2 squares of No. 300 M.S.T. cellophane topped by a square of white nylon are used, as the benzene would disintegrate the wax paper during this longer stripping period. The entire 250 ml. of benzene are added at once, the... [Pg.89]

Fibers. The principal type of phenoHc fiber is the novoloid fiber (98). The term novoloid designates a content of at least 85 wt % of a cross-linked novolak. Novoloid fibers are sold under the trademark Kynol, and Nippon Kynol and American Kynol are exclusive Hcensees. Novoloid fibers are made by acid-cataly2ed cross-linking of melt-spun novolak resin to form a fuUy cross-linked amorphous network. The fibers are infusible and insoluble, and possess physical and chemical properties that distinguish them from other fibers. AppHcations include a variety of flame- and chemical-resistant textiles and papers as weU as composites, gaskets, and friction materials. In addition, they are precursors for carbon fibers. [Pg.308]

At low latex soHds-to-pulp ratios, ie, 10—20 pph, latex is added to the beaten pulp to give a paper web with superior web strength, elongation, bursting strength, internal bond, and tear strength. The nitrile latices and medium styrene—butadiene are commonly used as beater additions. In a similar manner, latex can be deposited on asbestos fibers. Such compositions are used as gaskets, linoleum bases, etc. [Pg.260]

Specifications and Standards Test Methods. Ethylcellulose is cleared foi many apphcations in food and food contact under the Eedeial Eood, Dmg, and Cosmetic Act, as amended. Examples include binder in dry vitamin preparations for animal feed, coatings and inks for paper and paperboard products used in food packaging, and closures with sealing gaskets for food containers (44). Methods of analyses ate given in ASTM D914-72 (19), NationalFonmila XIV, and Food Chemicals Codex II. [Pg.278]

HEPA filters consist of a filter pack sealed into a case. The filter pack or core is made by pleating a continuous web of fiberglass paper back and forth over corrugated separators. The filter pack is sealed into a full-depth wood or steel casing using a elastomeric sealant. Gasketing is a critical item to ensure that the filter passes the air leakage tests. [Pg.1243]

The instruments for the HT-HP filtration test consist essentially of a controlled pressure source, a cell designed to withstand a working pressure of at least 1000 psi, a system for heating the cell, and a suitable frame to hold the cell and the heating system. For filtration tests at temperatures above 200°F, a pressurized collection cell is attached to the delivery tube. The filter cell is equipped with a thermometer well, oil-resistant gaskets, and a support for the filter paper (Whatman No. 50 or the equivalent). A valve on the filtrate delivery tube controls flow from the cell. A nonhazardous gas such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide should be used for the pressure source. [Pg.658]

Where definite loss of color by bleaching is noted, the content and container should be inspected to determine the cause. If correctable, such as a faulty gasket, broken container, etc, the gasket is changed or the powder is transferred to another container. A new strip of test paper is inserted and the proplnt replaced in storage with the container definitely marked to insure reinspection at the end of one year. [Pg.137]

The supplies may include anything from gaskets to toilet paper or from lubricating oil to instrument charts. They are items that are needed in operating the plant. These costs usually amount to around 15%-20% of the maintenance costs. [Pg.282]

In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (1999) permits the use of di(2-ethylhexyl) adipate as a component of adhesives used in food packaging, as a component of cellophane, as a plasticizer in polymeric substances used in the manufacture of articles for the food industry, as a component of paper and paper-board in contact with aqueous and fatty foods, and as a component of closirres with sealing gaskets for food containers. [Pg.155]

Wet nitrocellulose containing 20-40% of water is packed in galvanized iron drums or in semi-hermetic wooden boxes lined with zinc sheet or sometimes only with paraffin wax paper. Rubber gaskets are fitted under the lids. The box lids are fastened down by means of brass screws. Nitrocellulose packaged in this way is accepted for railway transport in separate Waggons. [Pg.406]
