Pancreatic cancer obesity

Elevation of y-GT is found in cholestasis, liver cirrhosis, viral hepatitis, fatty liver, porphyria, toxic liver damage, pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer, myocardial infarction, nephrotic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, right heart failure, obesity, nicotine abuse, and brain tumours. There is a good correlation of y-GT with CEA in colon cancer, involving a metastatic spread to the liver - an increase in y-GT in neoplastic disease is likewise supportive of the diagnosis of hepatic metastases. 

A prospective American Cancer Society study found an increase in the mortality rates for colorectal and prostate cancer in overweight men and for endometrial, gallbladder, cervical, ovarian and breast cancer in overweight women (Lew 1985). An association with obesity is now firmly established for breast cancer in post-menopausal women, as well as for endometrial cancer and for renal cell cancer. Obesity may also play a part in the pathogenesis of colorectal, prostatic and pancreatic cancers in men (Caroll 1998). 

Chronic pancreatitis has long been thought to be mainly associated with immoderate alcohol consumption, tobacco smoke, and obesity, diets high in animal protein and fat, as well as antioxidant deficiencies. Diets high in processed or red meat, diets low in fruits and vegetables, phytochemicals such as lycopene and flavonols, have been proposed and refuted as risk or protective factors in different trials [131].
