If there is any indication that radioactive material is involved, you should immediately presume that all persons, vehicles, and materials within the site are contaminated. The use, by trained personnel, of instruments desigjned specifically to detect radioactive contamination is essential. All persons, vehicles, and materials to be removed from the incident must be tested to be determined that they are not contaminated. Scanning with a pancake probe can only progress at about 1 inch per second, and the entire surfece area of a person, vehicle, or item must be scanned to rule out contamination. You must be aware of the limitations of this instrument. Low-range gamma detectors may not detect alpha, beta, neutron, or high-energy gamma radiation. Our inspection method is based on an encircling Eddy current coil measuring the structural integrity of the rod, and 8 pancake coils positioned on a typical place over the rods diameter. One inspection block consists of 4 to 6 probe assemblies. [Pg.1007]
