The Palestinians have utilized UNi as a main charge explosive for many years. Along with TATP (to be discussed in the next section), it remains one of the main explosives in the Palestinian arsenal. A photograph taken by the author in the Gaza Strip shows a sample of Palestinian UNi (see Fig. 3.3). Urea in fertilizer form is seldom pure. It carries a good number of impurities that create a beige color in the final UNi. [Pg.54]

In an example of how quickly technology travels from one terrorist group to another, the attacks in Casablanca, Morocco, in May of 2003 utilized a TATP formulation first seen a couple years earlier in Palestinian attacks in Israel. TATP has also become one of the main charges utilized by Communist terrorist groups in Turkey over the last couple of years. TATP charges ranging from 1 to 20 lb are not uncommon. [Pg.64]

Guerrilla Warfare, This term refers to military operations conducted by informal forces which operate within territory nominally controlled by the enemy and which have no permanent bases or other permanently defended territory. Guerrilla warfare is usually thought of as small-scale and independent operations, as in insurgency or revolutionary war situations. Geurilla warfare can also be a secondary adjunct to ordinary military operations, as in the case of the Palestinian commandos... [Pg.815]

Examination of the Egyptian material led to a further discovery. The general Nile pattern, produced by Nile muds and the ceramics made from it, is on first glance very close to that of the Palestinian red field clay. When the plots of three clays and six sherds were matched by the scandium—iron points, cobalt, chromium, and europium also matched exactly. Thus in the Nile samples, concentrations of the five elements are highly mutually correlated. This observation then allowed detection of subtle differences between Palestinian and Egyptian materials. The... [Pg.62]

The two above examples illustrate that not only is the Sc/Fe ratio remarkably consistent within a group representing a given area but that it varies significantly from area to area and from clay type to clay type. For example, our data on the Palestinian red and yellow clays show that the former have Sc/Fe — 3.74 0.09 while the latter have Sc/Fe = 5.46 0.29. Of course, in cases where clays of different types were mixed (either by the potter or by natural forces), intermediate Sc/Fe ratios would be obtained. [Pg.63]

The Syrian materials fit mostly into the Palestinian coastal plain pattern, but some were more like the Mesopotamian one. The small sampling does not permit more definite conclusions at this time. [Pg.64]

The automobile has been a favorite assassination tool since the 1920s. The Israelis have blown up so many Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) operatives in their cars I m surprised all Palestinians don t take the bus. The old standby method of wiring the ignition to detonate when started is still used in some places, but the advent of inside hood releases and remote starters have made this technique somewhat more complicated. [Pg.82]

Different groups of terrorists tend to organize their attacks in common patterns. For example, A1 Qaeda favors broad-scope attacks that are technically advanced, but do so much less frequently than Palestinian terrorists who act more frequently - by some accounts more than 20,000 attacks on Israel from 2000 to 2004 - with a single operative, on a relatively smaller scale. [Pg.301]

This was reflected in the diseases that Palestinians in Gaza suffer, such as blue babies and renal failure. [Pg.6]
