Other uses for alkyds are in general industrial coatings such as machinery and metal furniture. Alkyd resin-chlorinated rubber based coatings are used in traffic paints, but use is declining because of VOC concerns. Some alkyds are still used in refinish paints for automobiles. Uralkyds are used as a vehicle for urethane varnishes for the do-it-yourself market. 

White spirit is used predominantly in the paint industry as a solvent or diluent for oil-based, alkyd resin, chlorinated rubber, and some vinyl chloride copolymer paints light napththas have flash points above 21 "C. Varnish makers and painters (VMP) naphtha (hp 100-150 "C) is used mainly as diluent. 

Low grades are used for industrial purposes in soap (after hydrogenation), in blends with linseed etc. in paints and varnishes and in alkyd resins. Paints based solely on sunflower oil have a good resistance to yellowing because of the low linolenic acid content. The use of the oil as a diesel fuel is also being explored (Zimmerman, 1981). 

Uses NonyeL, very resilient, soft resin for odorless and taste-free finishes in the paint industry, for gravure and flexographic Inks, for producing pressure-sensitive, building adhesives, and as tackifying soft resins defoamer, air release agent for petrol, solv.-based paints, e.g., NC, PU, PE, alkyds, epoxy in food-pkg. appiics.
