Oxybutynin chloride

Ciba Limited, Switzerland British Patent 1,077,603 August 2,1967 [Pg.1143]

Chemical Name a-cyclohexyl-a-hydroxybenzeneacetic acid 4-(dietl ylamino)-2-butynyl ester hydrochloride [Pg.1143]

Chemical Abstracts Registry No. 1508-65-2 5633-20-5 (Base) Trade Name Manufacturer [Pg.1143]

Methyl phenylcyclohexylglycolate 4-Diethylamino-2-butynyl acetate Sodium methylate [Pg.1143]

About 314 hours were required for the reaction to be completed. [Pg.1143]

The reaction mixture was then allowed to cool to room temperature, washed with water, and extracted with four 165 ml portions of 2 N hydrochloric acid. The aqueous extracts were combined and stirred at room temperature to permit crystallization of the hydrochloride salt of the desired product. Crystallization was completed by cooling the slurry in an ice bath, and the product was collected by filtration, pressed dry, and recrystallized from 750 ml of water. Yield of pure crystalline material, 323 grams. [Pg.1143]

Dicyclomine hydrochloride (Bentyl, others), flavoxate hydrochloride (Urispas, others), oxybutynin chloride (Ditropan, others), and tolterodine tartrate (Detrol) are tertiary amines and trospium chloride (Sanctura) is a quaternary amine all are used for their anfispasmodic properties. These agents appear to exert some nonspecific direct relaxant effect on smooth muscle. In therapeutic doses, they decrease spasm of the G1 tract, biliary tract, ureter, and uterus. [Pg.199]

Oxybutynin chloride is an anticholinergic that increases bladder capacity, diminishes frequency of uninhibited contractions of detrusor muscle and delays initial desire to void. It is indicated in the treatment of symptoms of bladder instability associated with voiding in patients with uninhibited and reflex neurogenic bladder (e.g., urinary leakage, dysuria) and treatment of overactive bladder with symptoms of urge urinary incontinence, urgency, and frequency. [Pg.531]
