To use CSs as indicators of local structure, a reference CS set is needed. There are many attempts in the literature to generate such a set, many involving highly flexible short peptides.52 53 Other approaches involve careful analysis of database-deposited shifts from globular proteins.54 55 In practice, it is advisable to use sequence-dependent correction factors for these shifts, especially for intrinsically unfolded proteins.56 Another important practical aspect is the accurate determination of the CS values which requires correct spectral referencing, an issue well documented in literature but still not always easily followed in practice. [Pg.48]

Sec7 Domain. The SECT protein was identified in a genetic screen of Saccharomyces cerevisiae mutants for defects in protein secretion (Achstetter et al., 1988). Structurally similar domains that were later recognized in other proteins involved in vesicular trafficking were referred as See domains and subsequently shown to be responsible for ARF activation (Morinaga et al., 1996 Peyroche et al., 1996) as well as its sensitivity to... [Pg.186]

The purpose of Structural Adhesives Chemistry and Technology is to review the major classes of structural adhesives and the principles of adhesion and bonding as these relate to structural joints. Each chapter provides an overview of the topic under discussion with a list of references to the relevant literature. In addition to describing the chemistry involved, other aspects of structural adhesive technology are covered, such as formulation, testing, and end uses. [Pg.513]

Later studies that used higher flux TR-SAXS apparatus and pure lipids (DHPE = dihexadecylphosphatidy-lethanolamine or monoacylglycerides such as monoolein and monoelaidin ) confirmed that the lamellar-to-lamellar transitions are very rapid. Thus the Lp- L transition for the DHPE system was complete in less than 2 s while the Lp. transition required about 6 s. For the monoglycerides the Lp L transition was complete in less than 3 s. Within the sensitivity limit of the method used, no intermediate structure was detected between the initial and final phases. The two-state nature of the transitions between lamellar phases was confirmed in other studies involving l-stearoyl-2-oleoyl-3-phosphatidylethanolamine (SOPE) and DHPE. In Reference 29 the DHPE lamellar phase was perturbed by a p-jump and the equilibrium pressure was reached in 2 s, that is, much more rapidly that in the previous studies by the same group where the perturbation of the system was achieved by a rel-... [Pg.357]
