Other Grades

Measurements conducted on samples, made of other grades of steel have shown that the shift of frequency characferistics of the applied signal are closely connected with sizes of crystallite grains and may be applied for the determination of parameters of the material structure. 

Henequen. Agavefourcroydes grows ia Mexico where it was first cultivated by the Mayans ia the Yucatan (Yucatan Sisal). The plant produces for 20—30 years. The lower bottom leaves, which are up to 2 m long and 10—15 cm wide, are cut, machine decorticated, and cleaned. Henequen fibers are white to yellowish red and are inferior to sisal ia strength, cleanliness, texture, and length, the other grading criteria. Henequen is grown for local use ia Cuba (Cuban Sisal) and El Salvador. Twiae, small ropes, coarse mgs, and sacks are made commercially from henequen. 

The fermentation-derived food-grade product is sold in 50, 80, and 88% concentrations the other grades are available in 50 and 88% concentrations. The food-grade product meets the Vood Chemicals Codex III and the pharmaceutical grade meets the FCC and the United States Pharmacopoeia XK specifications (7). Other lactic acid derivatives such as salts and esters are also available in weU-estabhshed product specifications. Standard analytical methods such as titration and Hquid chromatography can be used to determine lactic acid, and other gravimetric and specific tests are used to detect impurities for the product specifications. A standard titration method neutralizes the acid with sodium hydroxide and then back-titrates the acid. An older standard quantitative method for determination of lactic acid was based on oxidation by potassium permanganate to acetaldehyde, which is absorbed in sodium bisulfite and titrated iodometricaHy.

There are several systems that define the quality and uniformity of natural mbber. One system of grading natural mbber is based on form and visual observation of color and cleanliness. This is known as the International Natural Rubber Specification. The principal types and grades are as follows. There are five other types of mbber classified by this system and many other grades not Hsted here. 

Many commercial grades of pine oil are available and are specified by physical properties and total alcohol content. Some commercial pine oils and the typical physical properties are Hsted in Table 4. Other grades of pine oil may constitute a blend of synthetic and natural pine oil and give the product a different odor characteristic. The odor difference is caused by the presence of phenoHc ethers anethole and methyl chavicol. 

The physical properties of methylene chloride are Hsted in Table 1 and the binary a2eotropes in Table 2. Methylene chloride is a volatile Hquid. Although methylene chloride is only slightly soluble in water, it is completely miscible with other grades of chlorinated solvents, diethyl ether, and ethyl alcohol. It dissolves in most other common organic solvents. Methylene chloride is also an excellent solvent for many resins, waxes, and fats, and hence is well suited to a wide variety of industrial uses. Methylene chloride alone exhibits no dash or fire point. However, as Htde as 10 vol % acetone or methyl alcohol is capable of producing a dash point.

Note There are also other grades of casing available from various manufacturers. For example, Lone Star offers steel grades SS-95 for sour service, S-80 and S-95 for nominal service. Mannesmann offers a C-90 for sour service and SOO-95, 124, 140 for high-strength service. There is also available a tentative API grade V-150 = 150,000 psi, = 180,000 psi), which has... 

Cast irons are iron with high levels of carbon. Heat treatments and alloying element additions produce gray cast iron, malleable iron, ductile iron, spheroidal cast iron and other grades. The mechanical properties vary significantly. Nickel-containing cast irons have improved hardness and corrosion resistance. Copper or molybdenum additions improve strength. 

It is impossible in this chapter to do justice to the extensive amount of research that has been performed on the stress corrosion of stainless steels, and probably more papers have been written concerning the austenitic grades than on all of the other grades together. Numerous reviews have been published in recent years some of which are listed in references 66-71, but other equally useful reviews are available. 

The various other grades of acid-treated clay catalysts like Engelhard F-25, F-34, F-44,F-54, F-124, F-224, G-62, Tonsil K 306, etc. were also found to be useful catalysts for the alkylation of DPA with AMS. This alkylation reaction was unsuccessful with macroporous...

Table 3.15 shows some example properties of fireproofed grades. These examples are not exhaustive and indicated limits concern only a few grades. Other data can be found relating to other grades. 

Very different data can be obtained with other grades under different conditions. These results are examples only and cannot be generalized. 

Figure 4.96 displays two examples of tensile stress and elongation at break retention (relative to the properties at 20°C) versus temperature for a PVF grade. For elongation at break, very different data can be found for other grades.
