Iron malleable

HBI has been successfully melted in cupolas (hot or cold blast), induction furnaces (coreless or channel), and electric arc furnaces. It can be a valuable charge material for ductile and malleable irons as well as steel. It is of particular value in making ductile iron castings because of its very low residual element content. [Pg.432]

A typical up-draft sinter machine (Fig. 2) has an endless belt of malleable iron pallets with grate bottoms upon which the charge is evenly spread. Beneath the pallets, wind boxes produce an up-draft of air through the charge. At the feed end, an ignition box starts the roasting. The combustion products, mostly SO2 and SO, are collected, usually for sulfuric acid production (see Sulfuric acid and sulfur trioxide). [Pg.35]

Buckets for spaced-type elevators (Fig. 21-5/j) are available in both malleable iron and steel in a variety of styles. Style 1 is standard, with style 2 identical except for a reinforced lip. Styles 3 and 4 are low-front designs for wet, stringy, or sticky materials which are difficult to discharge. [Pg.1922]

Never use malleable iron fittings or pipe unless the fluid is nonhazardous and the pressure not greater than 25 psig. Always use a pressure rating at least four times that of the maximum system pressure. t lso, never use cast iron or malleable iron fittings or valves in pressure pulsating systems or systems subject to physical shock. [Pg.67]

The Ewart links are usually cast in one piece with no separate bushings or pins. The material used is generally malleable iron, although steel is also extensively employed. As a general rule the maximum speed at which this type of chain is operated is about 400 ft/min, and even at that speed it is apt to be quite noisy. Because the links used in this chain are not machined and the pitch is not very uniform, the teeth of the sprockets used with them are, in turn, generally not machined. [Pg.446]

Cast irons are iron with high levels of carbon. Heat treatments and alloying element additions produce gray cast iron, malleable iron, ductile iron, spheroidal cast iron and other grades. The mechanical properties vary significantly. Nickel-containing cast irons have improved hardness and corrosion resistance. Copper or molybdenum additions improve strength. [Pg.905]

Fireclay bricks are used in kilns, malleable-iron furnaces, incinerators, and many portions of metallurgical furnaces. They are resistant to spalling and stand up well under many slag conditions but are not generally suitable for use with high-lime slags or fluid-coal-ash slags or under severe load conditions. [Pg.50]
