Hattori et al. (1993) measured mobilities of a series of aiylamine derivatives doped into a PC. The results were compared to ionization potentials and the calculated differences of the electron densities of the donor molecules in their neutral and cation radical states. While there was no apparent correlation between the mobilities and the ionization potentials, the mobilities decreased as the difference in electron density distribution increased. [Pg.412]

Nemeth-Buhin and Juhasz (1995) measured hole mobilities of l,l-bis(4-diethylaminophenyl)-4,4-diphenyl-1,3-butadiene doped PC. Measurements were made at concentrations as low as 4%. These correspond to intersite distances as large as 28 A, the largest of any described in the literature. A significant result of this work was that transit times as long as 104 s were measured with no indication of trapping. [Pg.414]

Young and Fitzgerald (1995) analyzed the effects of dipole moments on the hole mobilities of a series of aiylalkane, aiylamine, carbazole, hydrazone, pyrazoline, and oxadiazole molecules doped into a PC, PS, and as vapor-deposited glasses. The results agreed with earlier work of Sugiuchi et al. (1991). Aratani et al. (1996) investigated effects of molecular orbital distributions on hole mobilities of a series of triphenylamine derivatives doped into PC. The results show that the HOMO of the triphenylamine derivatives has essentially no effect on either the width of the DOS or the degree of positional disorder, but has a large effect on the prefactor mobility. Aratini et al. argued that increasing the HOMO distribution on the triphenylamine moiety results in an increase in the wavefunction decay constant. The mobility increases as the fraction of the HOMO electron density distributed on the triphenylamine moiety increases. The ionization potential of the triphenylamine derivatives was found to have little effect on the transport behavior. [Pg.415]

Biodegradable polyurethanes have been proposed and studied before (9-72). The difference in our study is the inclusion of a phosphoester linkage instead of the commonly used polyester component. This seems to provide more flexibility as the side chain of the phosphate or phosphonate can be varied. For controlled drug delivery applications, drugs can be linked to this site to form a pendant delivery system. Moreover, for certain medical applications, fast degradation rate is obtainable by the introduction of these hydrolyzable phosphoester bonds. Migration time reproducibility, linearity, and detector response was found to be comparable to HPLC. There are some classes of compounds present in seawater which have known biological activity but have received little attention. Compounds involved in chemical communication, especially halogenated compounds, will be discussed in other chapters. Other compounds of interest are those involved in the citric acid cycle, the major pathway of metabolism in almost all cells. Squalene is a precursor for steroid biosynthesis and may have cardioprotective and cancer-preventative properties. Though nuts are known to contain squalene, the limited literature available indicates that the pine nut contains a relatively low amount of squalene compared to other nuts [8]. Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis showed that pine nut oil had a squalene content of about 40mg/100g oil, which is approximately 23mg/100 nuts. Thus, they would not be a likely choice for a squalene-based nutraceutical however, this study did not report the species of pine nut measured, and variability between species of other compounds of interest may indicate that a different species could provide higher squalene content. [Pg.288]
