OrganometaUic complexes are usually assumed to be rather unstable, for instance with respect to high temperatures. It is an interesting fact that organometallic-catalyzed reactions are successfully carried out in SCW. The advantage of organo-metallic reactions with respect to their technical application can be the facile separation of products upon cooling. 

This series of books are remarkable in documenting the practical knowledge accumulated through actual personal experience. Each reaction and procedure has benefited from the critical perspective of the authors. Indeed, Why run a reaction for a day when it s over in two minutes We learn not only how to prepare a given compound but, more important, how, in general, polar organo-metallic reactions can be carried out most effectively. 

The first high-pressure NMR experiments fall back to the 1950s [42]. Yet, nevertheless, only custom-made constructions have been described in literature, either as autoclaves or as capillaries. In the hterature, several examples for high-pressure reaction monitoring are described, as, for example, the observation of the isobutane oxidation [43], clarification of organo-metal reactions [44], or polymer reactions in supercritical carbon dioxide [45]. Some authors offer a good overview [4h]. 

The purpose of this series is to provide a continuing critical review of the literature concerned with mechanistic aspects of inorganic and organo-metallic reactions in solution, with coverage being complete in each volume. The papers discussed are selected on the basis of relevance to the elucidation of reaction mechanisms and many include results of a nonkinetic nature when useful mechanistic information can be deduced. The period of literature covered by this volume is July 1982 through December 1983, and in some instances papers not available for inclusion in the previous volume are also included. Numerical results are usually reported in the units used by the original authors, except where data from different papers are compared and conversion to common units is necessary.

The reaction mechanism for these products is not clearly understood, but the introduction of organo-metallic compounds (barium or iron salts in colloidal suspension) has been shown to have a beneficiai action on the combustion of diesel fuel in engines and reduce smoke. However, these products cause deposits to form because they are used in relatively large proportions (on the order 0.6 to 0.8 weight %) to be effective.

Different substrate geometries can even result in alternate reaction pathways operating. The reactions between trans-a, (3-epoxytrimethylsilane 115 and organo-metals (metal = Li, Ce, or La) give predominantly trans-alkene 116 in high yields (Scheme 5.25) [38].
