Another approach was the synthesis of inorganic/organic composite materials to influence the properties of the membrane. For operation at elevated temperature, several materials have been considered, hi an early work, Nafion /Fl3P04 showed better conductivity at temperatures above 100°C compared with blank Nation and also reduced methanol permeabihty [17]. New types of polymers are also under development for better temperature stabihty one of the most advanced examples is the high-temperature material polybenzimidazole, which usually is doped with phosphoric acid [18]. 

Sedimentation analysis is suitable for a wide variety of materials and is used for both quaHty control and research work, such as agglomeration studies (56), and gives well-defined, relatively high resolution results. The technique has been employed in the evaluation of soils, sediments, pigments, fillers, phosphors, clays (qv), minerals, photographic haHdes, and organic particles (57,58). 

Flame Retardants. Most polymers, because they are organic materials, are flammable. Additives that contain chlorine, bromine, phosphorous or metallic salts reduce the likelihood that combustion will occur or spread. 

Several solid materials, such as organics dissolved In plastics (,22,23), phosphors sintered with polytetrafluoroethylene (30), phosphors (31), and lumogen-T (23), have been suggested as calibration standards. But most of the publications suggesting these materials (except Ref. 31) have not Included digital data for the corrected spectra. The prepared MAC adsorbents were tested for benzene, toluene, 0-, m-, p-xylene, methanol, ethanol, iso-propanol, and MEK. The modified content of all MACs was 5wt% with respect to AC. The specific surface areas and amounts of VOC adsorbed of MACs prepared in this study are shown in Table 1. The amounts of VOC adsorbed on 5wt%-MAC with acids and alkali show a similar tendency. However, the amount of VOC adsorbed on 5wt%-PA/AC was relatively large in spite of the decrease of specific surface area excepting in case of o-xylene, m-xylene, and MEK. This suggests that the adsorption of relatively large molecules such as 0-xylene, m-xylene, and MEK was suppressed, while that of small molecules was enhanced. It can be therefore speculated that the phosphoric acid narrowed the micropores but changed the chemical nature of surface to adsorb the organic materials strongly. 

Phosphorous-based fire retardants carbonised the circuit boards surface, preventing fresh materialbecoming available for burning. Mineral fire retardants, such as aluminium hydroxide, dilute the flammable organic compounds in the bulk material, cool the material and release water on heating.
