Currently, much effort is devoted to the development of micro- or even nano-LC-NMR. This is an attractive development since deuterated solvents are now more easily available. The drawback to this technique posed by its low sensitivity could be resolved with the recent development of new technologies based on a cryoflow NMR probe. This probe, which cools the receiver coils to cryogenic temperature to improve the signal-to-noise ratio of the NMR spectra, has been recently applied for the analysis of oregano extracts. Spraul et al. showed that with cryoflow probes the analyte detectability was about four times better than with conventional probes or, alternatively, the scan time was 16-fold shorter for the same amount of sample. This approach, and the use of online preconcentration using LC-SPE-NMR, is likely to gain popularity in the future.

Yesterday afternoon I smoked a small portion of oregano which had been soaked in about 50 mg Phalaris grass extract dissolved in alcohol and allowed to evaporate. This was material that R. made to be used in combination with harmala extract as an ayahuasca analog. The consequence was an extremely powerful DMT trip - equal to my injected DMT experience last January at UNM, though I didn t see any entities this time. 

A problem that occurs now and then is that a producer of herbs partially extracts them, separates the components, sells them separately, and then sells the partially extracted leaves as originals. This is a fraud, unless the label indicates a partial extraction. An activist group suspects that such an operation is going on involving the removal of carvacrol and thymol from oregano leaves and demands an immediate analysis. You are to extract some leaves they suspect and compare the amount recovered to a known quality product.
