Although there are numerous scrubber designs, typical characteristics of four of the more common types are listed in Table 13.8. Table 13.9 presents data on the features, operating principles and problem areas with these common scrubbers. A brief description of each scrubber type follows. [Pg.1245]

Cook(63) has presented data on the performance of a partial-recycle units based on a direct-fired burner using natural gas. These are compared with the once-through operation in Table 16.8. [Pg.963]

Another approach to the problem of relative resistance to surface ignition of various hydrocarbons has been to compare the fuels being rated with the occurrence of ignition caused by the deposits they form 39), These experiments were run with leaded fuels in an effort to simulate practical conditions, and tests were made under conditions of both cyclic operation and constant speed and load. Without exception, less surface ignition occurred under the constant speed and load conditions, with very great reductions in the case of toluene and benzene. This result was not unexpected, as aromatic compounds are known to produce carbon deposits rapidly under conditions of idling and deceleration 39), Table III presents data for conditions of cycling and constant speed and load. [Pg.226]

A key operation in biodiesel manufacturing is the separation of glycerol and FAM E from the reaction mixture by liquid-liquid decanting. Thermodynamic studies on this subject are scarce despite the industrial interest Table 14.11 presents data for... [Pg.422]

Reactions of organic compounds over solid catalysts are sometimes accompanied by the formation of heavy by-products which can form a deposit on the surface and lead to catalyst deactivation. For o-xylene oxidation the formation of such compounds has been frequently mentioned [15-17] but no information can be found about their influence on the catalyst deactivation. The present work reports on the formation of carbonaceous deposits over V2O5/T1O2 catalysts used for o-xyletie oxidation. Samples prepared by wet impregnation were used under operating conditions that can lead to the formation of heavy compounds. They were then collected and analysed by FTIR and TFO. The present data help to elucidate the characteristics of such compounds and their influence on the catalytic behaviour. [Pg.476]

Experiments in our tubular SCWO reactors are described in [1], A model for SCWO in a Modar vessel reactor was published recently [2]. This paper will describe our present work on a model for tubular flow SCWO reactors. Some numerical simulation results will demonstrate the use of the model to understand time dependent temperature instabilities. The paper also presents first results to derive process parameters from operational process data. [Pg.157]

A non-resonance, direct-force method for dynamic shear properties measurements is described, and the results of tests on two commercially available damping polymers are presented. Novel aspects of this method include the means for supporting the sample and for measuring the imposed force and the resultant shear deformation. Addressed in this article are the test configuration, the principle of operation, the data reduction procedure, some typical measured properties, consistency checks on the data, and a brief description of an initial application of the data. [Pg.79]

A key factor for successful MHD operation is the degree of interaction between plasma potassium seed and the slag medium. Using slag activity data from the present studies, it is possible to predict conditions under which plasma seed will be continuously depleted by slag absorption of alkali. Plante et al. ( ) presented similar arguments earlier, based on their data for the binary oxide systems. A more definitive analysis can now be made from the present data on complex synthetic and actual slag systems. [Pg.581]

Roll crushers are available as smooth or toothed rolls. Figure 12.6(b) is an example of a smooth-roll crusher and Table 12.10(b) presents data for a double tooth-roll crusher for coal. For smooth rolls, the feed size is hmited by the angle of nip, which depends on surface conditions but it is approximately 16 degrees. Table 12.10(c) contains additional operating data for roll crushers. The relation between the diameters of the roll d, and feed df and the gap do between the rolls is given by... [Pg.370]

One of the surprising results of this study Is the ability of the catalyst to operate with concentrated, CO-rich feed gas without catastrophic catalyst deactivation. The present data show that deactivation of methanol-synthesis catalyst in a slurry reactor is within the range of commercial feasibility. Although the experimental data show that catalyst activity loss correlates with the loss of BET surface area, the relationship between catalyst activity and sintering requires more study. Since commercial methanol-synthesis catalysts are composed primarily of Cu and ZnO, with only smalt amounts of AI2O3, the present data do not discriminate between sintering of the overall surface and sintering of the Cu metal surface, which is believed to provide the actual sites for reaction. [Pg.355]

This paper presents Georgia-Pacific s and other investigators experience with various aspects of large environmental chamber design and operation. Experimental data and observations are presented in such topics as 1.) Common formaldehyde air test methods 2.)... [Pg.154]
