Open site creation

Another way of looking at the question of creation of a vacant site and coordination of the substrate is the classical way by which substitution reactions are described (Figure 2.1). Two extreme mechanisms are distinguished, an associative and a dissociative one. In the dissociative mechanism the ratecontrolling step is the breaking of the bond between the metal and the leaving ligand. A solvent molecule occupies the open site, which is a phenomenon that does not appear in the rate equation. Subsequently the solvent is replaced by the... [Pg.29]

Figure 3 shows five possible paths, designated a e, generating r 2-H2 complexes from 1 via open site intermediates. Note that paths a-d, leading from 1 to species 7 10, are all overall endothermic processes. Paths a-c can be resolved into the endothermic creation of the open site, followed by the exothermic coordination of dihydrogen. Species 2,... [Pg.10]

While most rp-H2 complexes of iron are in Fe11 complexes, the results presented above suggest that the creation of an open site on the FeIFeI... [Pg.17]

One of our basic assumptions was that the only role of light in the reaction was the creation of an open site on one of the metal centers. Our computations showed that an r 2-H2 intermediate, if formed, could facilitate D2/p-H exchange thermally in the presence of water. In other words, if a basal open site could be generated in the absence of light then D2/p.-H exchange should proceed via a dark, thermal reaction. [Pg.20]

The adamantyl unit provides several positions for the introduction of additional substituents, which opens the road for the further development of this type of ligand (possible fine-tuning of selectivity, creation of new binding sites at the wide rim, etc.). [Pg.271]

The unique features of zeolites, and the possibility of tuning acidic and basic sites, as well as the creation of multifunctional catalysts, open a wide field of applications in the production of fine chemicals. In this article we present new heterogeneously catalyzed processes for the synthesis of industrially relevant fragrances, flavors and aromas. The emphasis of this review article will remain mainly on solid acids. [Pg.301]

A widely accepted two-step mechanism of HIV-1 protease binding implies the creation of a loose complex with the open form of the enzyme, followed by the conformational change involving the closure of the flap region over the active site and formation of the final bound complex. Consequently, binding affinity differences between the HIV-1 protease and its mutants may also result from the changes in the internal equilibrium between the bound form of the protease with closed flaps conformation and the unbound open form... [Pg.297]

Dissemination is sometimes criticised for being based on an umealistic and ineffective linear notion of knowledge creation, diffusion and uptake (Scott et al., 2005). As policy processes and networks become more diffuse, open and consultative, there are more opportunities for researchers to make contributions - but this requires dissemination. The accessibility of scientific knowledge can be enhanced through various types of meeting and publication/web site, and the careful use of mass media. Translators of science - as well as scientists themselves - can play significant roles. [Pg.425]

Amorphous silicon deposition rates from silane in the PECVD process are typically in the range 5-50 nm/min. To analyze the kinetics of the deposition process (McCaughey Kushner, 1989 Lieberman Lichtenberg, 1994), consider a simple surface model illustrated in Fig. 8-28. The surface of amorphous silicon consists of a combination of active (a) and passive (p) sites in the framework of the simplified model. The active sites contain at least one open free bond the fraction of the surface covered by active sites is 0. In the passive sites, all bonds are occupied by silicon or hydrogen atoms (see Fig. 8-28) the fraction of the surface covered by passive sites is 0p (0a + = ) Creation of new active sites is due... [Pg.543]

This network became known as ARPANET. In the I980 s the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) implemented its Open Systems Interconnection—Reference Model (OSI—RM) to facilitate the interoperability of different hardware components. The creation in the I990 s of new software and programming languages, such as browsers and HTML, made the explosive growth of Internet activity and Web sites possible. [Pg.1070]

The brain consists of cells called neurons there are several hundreds of billions of such cells in our brain. A neuron makes connections to a number (several thousands) of other neurons. The signal travels within a neuron as an electric signal the electric impulse is created by ionic movement through ion channels aaoss the cell membrane such as sodium and potassium channel. When the signal comes to a junction called synapse , it has to be carried by a chemical compound across the narrow gap (which is 5-20 nm wide) between the neurons. Such a chemical compound is called neurotransmitter . A neurotransmitter molecule binds to the receptor site on the surface of a post-synaptic neuron. The receptor is an ion channel, and the binding of a neurotransmitter opens the channel, hence resulting in the creation of a new electric signal on the postsynaptic cell. [Pg.199]

The benefits of standards include the creation of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs). A LAN can cover a large industrial complex while a WAN can offer inter-site communications on a national or international basis. In the early 1990s the companies were gradually migrating from previously popular network standards (such as PC LAN, Novell, Internet) to open systems network such as NFS-based systems. However by mid-1990s Novell started to regain the market dominance. [Pg.302]
