Organic ply sheets are manufactured from 3 ft (91 cm) wide organic felts, saturated with soft asphalt, that cover 400 ft (37 m ). Laying lines are apphed to the top side of the ply sheets, and the felts are perforated about 2 to 4 in. (5 to 10 cm) on center to permit the gases to escape during the roof constmction process. [Pg.321]

The factors that cause a gear to mesh tightly are (1) tolerance on concentricity of shaft hole with pitch diameter, (2) tolerance on center distance, (3) tolerance on quality, (4) coefficient of thermal expansion, and (5) change in dimensions due to moisture absorption, which is a consideration/detriment in some materials. The first three apply to gears of any material. Item 4, and in some cases Item 5, for plastic gears deserves special consideration. [Pg.220]

Weingart (Ref 5) gives the details of another older method as follows Mount a 50 gal wooden barrel on two uprights in such a manner that it can revolve in a horizontal position on centers attached to the heads. To one of the... [Pg.66]

Fig. 38. Action of entanglements in simple shear degradation. The tension on the qth link from the center is given by fq = f0(l — 4q2/n2), where f0 qsy f(L) is the tension on center link (f(L) = function of chain length) and n = number of links per chain. A relationship between the redox state of an iron—sulfur center and the conformation of the host protein was furthermore established in an X-ray crystal study on center P in Azotobacter vinelandii nitroge-nase (270). In this enzyme, the two-electron oxidation of center P was found to be accompanied by a significant displacement of about 1 A of two iron atoms. In both cases, this displacement was associated with an additional ligation provided by a serine residue and the amide nitrogen of a cysteine residue, respectively. Since these two residues are protonable, it has been suggested that this structural change might help to synchronize the transfer of electrons and protons to the Fe-Mo cofactor of the enzyme (270). [Pg.481]

Wall Assembly Construction. Because the materials and the design of the assemblies were specified in English units of measurement (for example 2 by 4 lumber, 24 in. on center), dimensions are expressed in English units with SI equivalents. By contrast, our equipment is calibrated in SI units, and consequently SI units are used in the remaining sections of this paper. [Pg.414]

In practice, the NBO program labels an electron pair as a lone pair (LP) on center B whenever cb 2 > 0.95, i.e., when more than 95% of the electron density is concentrated on B, with only a weak (<5%) delocalization tail on A. Although this numerical threshold produces an apparent discontinuity in program output for the best single NBO Lewis structure, the multi-resonance NRT description depicts smooth variations of bond order from uF(lon) = 1 (pure ionic one-center) to bu 10n) = 0 (covalent two-center). This properly reflects the fact that the ionic-covalent transition is physically a smooth, continuous variation of electron-density distribution, rather than abrupt hopping from one distinct bond type to another. [Pg.62]

Align sections on center of slides coated with 3-aminopropytri ethoxy-silane (silane)—see Fig. 1. [Pg.299]

In this upgrade option, longitudinal 4 rebars are provided at 8 in (20 cm) on center and the wall cavities are filled solid with concrete. [Pg.123]

Finally, a particular surprise from this work has been (cp-K+)2(KSng ), the structure of which appears to represent a partial transition to an Intermetallic-llke bonding. The compound which was isolated in respectable yield from reactions of K-Hg-Sn alloys with crypt in en exhibits infinite chains K(4)-Snq-K(5)-Sng-K(4) running diagonally through the tricllnlc cell, K(4) and K(5) being located on centers of symmetry at 0,0,0 and /2 V2 2 crypt-lC " cations fill the remainder of the... [Pg.107]

From the spectrum of Fig. 28 one obtains a r = 0.0017 cm. With the aid of the MO treatment of Maki and McGarvey (155), these data can be used to obtain coefficients of the d-orbitals of the unpaired electi on centered at the copper nucleus and the value of k. One finds... [Pg.98]

In this section, we shall examine the various approaches by which crown compounds that have their chiral elements associated in some way with fused ring systems can be constructed. A selection of the wide and growing range of saturated chiral diols—many of them derived finom readily available carbohydrates—which have been incorporated, as relatively inexpensive sources of chirality, into crown ether derivatives are displayed in Figure IS. It may be noted that the saturated chiral diols rely for their chirality on centers of the classical type (C abcd)—not so the chiral dihydroxy compounds associated with the unsaturated systems listed in Figure 16. These examples reveal that axes and planes of chirality join with less conventional chiral centers (C aaaa) in being sources of chirality in optically active crown ethers. [Pg.244]

Additional Comments on Centering. In working out systematically the existence of just five distinct planar lattices, we arrived at the centered rectangular lattice by regarding it as a centered alternative to a primitive, non-... [Pg.356]
