The transformation of olefins into polyesters containing carboxyl groups in their side chains increased the solubility of the polymers in polar solvents, showing that their hydrophilicity had been enhanced. 

In a fully synthetic oil, there is almost certainly some mineral oil present. The chemical components used to manufacture the additive package and the viscosity index improver (VI) contain mineral oil. When all these aspects are considered, it is possible for a "fully synthetic" engine oil to surpass mineral oil (Shubkin, 1993). Synthetic oils fall into general ASTM classification (a) synthetic hydrocarbons (poly-a-olefins, alkylated aromatics, cycloaliphatics) (b) organic esters (dibasic acid esters, polyol esters, polyesters) (c) other fluids (polyalkylene glycols, phosphate esters, silicates, silicones, polyphenyl esters, fluorocarbons). 

P-red is an active flame retardant as a single additive in nitrogen and/or oxygen containing polymers such as polyamides, polyesters, polyurethanes, epoxies, isocyanates and polycarbonates. It can be part of a package with carbon char-forming agents or metal hydroxides in olefins and styrenics. 

This copolymer is also widely used as a blending compound with olefin homopolymers as well as with polyamides, polyesters, and polycarbonate to improve impact strength and toughness and either to increase heat seal response or to promote adhesion. EMA is also used in soft blow-molded articles such as squeeze toys, tubing, disposable medical gloves, and foamed sheet. EMA copolymers and ethylene ethyl acrylate (EEA) copolymer containing up to 8% ethyl acrylate are approved by the FDA for food packaging.
