Octasulfate

Sucralfate [54182-58-0] an aluminum salt of sucrose octasulfate, is used as an antacid and antiulcer medication (59). Bis- and tris-platinum complexes of sucrose show promise as antitumor agents (60). Sucrose monoesters are used in some pharmaceutical preparations (21). A sucrose polyester is under evaluation as a contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging (mri) (61). Oral adrninistration of this substance opacifies the gastrointestinal tract and eliminates the need for purging prior to mri. [Pg.6]

Sucralfate is a nonabsorbable aluminum salt of sucrose octasulfate that has limited value and is not routinely recommended for treatment of GERD. [Pg.284]

Sucrose octasulfate (23, Structures 6) bound to FGF and was able to induce, like heparin, a conformational change in the peptide, but showed very low mitogenic activity for an F32 cell line. The basic aluminium salt of sucrose octasulfate, which is used as a drug (Sucralfate, Carafate) for the treatment of duodenal ulcers was claimed to exert part of its activity through the stabilization of FGF... [Pg.229]

Sucralfate, a basic aluminium salt of sucrose octasulfate, probably acts by binding to inflamed surfaces it is possible, however, that its binding properties are more generalized, and it has been used as an intra-alimentary phosphate-binding agent in uremic patients. [Pg.3209]

Sucralfate, Sucralfate. 3.4.5.6-tctra-(polyhydn>xyalu-minum)-cr-i>-glucupyranusyl sulfate-2.3.4.5-tctra-(polyhj-druxyuluminum)-j D-fructofuranoside sulfate (Carafatc). is the aluminum hydroxide complex of the octasulfate ester ot sucrose. It is practically insoluble in water and soluble in strong acids and bases, it has a pK value between 0.43 anJ 1.19. [Pg.726]

A hydrate complex of aluminum hydroxide with octasulfated sucrose, sucrasulfate, has no useful acid-neutralizing capacity, yet it does have healing effects on gastric and duodenal ulcers. Its action is strictly local and involves the formation of a sticky, viscous gel that appears to protect the gastric mucosa by acting as a physical barrier to acids and pepsin. [Pg.631]

ID and 2D) of long-chain N-alkyl lactosylamines has been reported. All H- and C-resonances of potassium sucrose octasulfate have been assigned with the help of 2D and deuterium-induced differential-isotope-shift (DIDIS) n.m.r. methods. A H-n.m.r. study in D2O showed that 3 -ketolactose (11) crystallized from methanol as the hemiacetal 12 with an equatorial methoxy group. A 500 MHz H-n.m.r. investigation of methyl fl-cellobioside confirmed the presence of an intramolecular hydrogen bond between HO-3 and 0-5 in DMSO, but not in DjO or CDjOD. ... [Pg.270]

Later work showed that the disaccharide sucrose 51 by treatment with chlorosulfonic acid in pyridine or 2-picoline afforded the octasulfate 52 in which all eight hydroxyl groups have been esterified (Equation 23). The product 52 was subsequently converted into glucose octasulfate basic aluminium complex which is used in the treatment of ulcers and wounds. ... [Pg.157]
