Number line

Each reference is a block of lines starting with R RN, RP, RX, RA, RT, and RL. The RN (Reference Number) line gives the number of the reference in an entry. The RP line provides a short indication of the work described in the publication. The RC (Reference Comment) line provides information such as the tissue or strain from which the protein was extracted. The references shown above have no RC lines, so some examples to illustrate the type of information in RC lines are ... 

Integers can be shown on a number line where 0, called the origin, is in the middle ... 

ABSOLUTE VALUE of a number is the distance, or number of units from the origin, on a number line. Absolute value is the magnitude (the size) of the number and is always positive. 

The integers, and all the real numbers, are ordered keep in mind that-8 is smaller than -6 because -8 is to the left of-6 on a number line. However, the absolute value of-8, 1-81, is larger than 1-61 because -8 is eight units from the origin and -6 is only six units from the origin. 

To add or subtract decimal numbers, line up the decimal points and add or subtract as usual. The decimal point will be in the same place as it is in the terms. If the numbers are written across the page, set up the problem one number below the other, lining up the decimal points. You can add trailing zeros as placeholders.

The responses vary from a low value of 32.48 to a high value of 32.57, a response range of 0.09. Notice that the responses tend to cluster about a central value of approximately 32.53. Most of the values are very close to the central value only a few are far away. Another representation of this ordered data set is given in Figure 3.2, where the vertical bars indicate the existence of a response with the corresponding value on the horizontal number line. Bars twice as high as the others indicate that there are two responses with this value. Again, notice that the data set tends to be clustered about a central value.

Other functions such as can coding (lot numbers, line designation) must be considered a process step. Can coding is a means of identifying an unlabeled unit by lot number or code. It is usually done with an ink-jet labeler or similar device. Another coding system may differentiate between filling tracks (front, back) within one lot. The absolute value of a number or expression is always positive because it is the difference a number is away from zero on a number line. 

You have surely dealt with number lines in your distinguished career as a math student. The concept of the number line is simple Less than is to the left and greater than is to the right. 

On a number line, less than 0 is to the left of 0 and greater than 0 is to the right of 0. 

If a number is less than another number, it is farther to the left on the number line.
