Particles novel

Novel Bioparticle Research. Two major thrusts have been seen in recent particle research—the area of density manipulation so that particle density suits the desired fluidization mode, and the development of magnetic particles for use in magnetically stabilized fluidization. Intraparticle mass transfer is also of interest. Table 18 lists several novel particles developed in recent years to address these and other concerns. [Pg.641]

Ceulemans paper of 1984 generalizes the work of Griffith [25,26] on particle-hole conjugation for the specific case of d" electrons split by an octahedral symmetry field. He relies on the use of matrices and determinants, in particular Laplace s expansion of the determinant in terms of complementary minors, for the analysis. He bases his selection mle analysis on the properties of a novel particle-hole conjugation operator... [Pg.35]

Liu et al. [88] have used Pickering emulsion polymerization to synthesize silica nanoparticle-armored PANI nanoparticles (PANI SiO ) (see Figure 14.11). The obtained core-shell PANIigSiO nanoparticles are polydisperse with an average diameter of near 200 nm. Shear viscosity and flow curves of this novel particle-based ER fluid exhibit Newtonian behavior in the absence of electric field, while these show substantial enhancement as a function of electric filed strength in the presence of external electric field, indicating more obvious ER effect. [Pg.743]

Quasi-electrons are electrons in solids with properties other than those in vacuum. In a condensed phase electrons interact with each other and with the nuclei. In order to deal with them as independent free units their interactions with the environment must be eliminated (or at least substantially reduced). This is done by transforming the interactions into novel particle properties. For example, when the motion of an electron in a solid is impeded by atoms the electron seems to be heavier, and as a result the electron is transformed into a free quasi-electron with a higher mass. The properties have changed under the transformation from those of free electrons in vacuum to those of quasi-electrons in a solid and so have their identities. [Pg.26]

Additional novel particles, including nylon 66, alumina, " gold, garnet, diamond, graphite, polyaniline, and boron nitride nanosheets, and nanoparticles of low molecular weight borate esters, have been introduced to increase ionic conductivities. Boron-doped PDMS has been used as scintillators for thermal neutron detection. Nanowires of ZnO have been inserted into PDMS to give tunable, flexible antireflection layers, and ZnO has also been introduced into such polymers as quantum dots. Similarly, color-tunable luminescent... [Pg.232]
