Normal operation mode

For new processes, the employer will find a PHA helpful in improving the design and construction of the process from a reliability and quality point of view. The safe operation of the new process is enhanced by making use of the PHA recommendations before final installations are completed. P IDs should be completed, the operating procedures in place, and the operating staff trained to run the process, before startup. The initial startup procedures and normal operating procedures must be fully evaluated as part of the prestartup review to ensure a safe transfer into the normal operating mode.

Control mechanisms must be overcome to force a living system from its normal operating mode. It will be much easier to work with the control system to accomplish objectives.

In Chapter 12, Cemescu et al. present a reverse engineering application in the context of dental engineering. The aim is to efficiently and effectively assess the mechanical quality of manufactured complete dentures in terms of their behavior to mechanical stresses e.g. detect areas likely to underperform or crack in normal operation mode. The reverse engineering pipeline presented covers the steps of 3D model acquisition by means of scanning and surface reconstruction, creation of a finite element mesh suitable for numerical simulations, and the actual computation of stress and strain factors in presence of induced model defects.

This protection I C system contains four divisions, which are strictly identical, see Figure 1. These divisions are physically separated. Each division is composed of five Acquisition Processing Units (APU). The APU 0, 1 and 2 represent the subsystem A (SSA). The APU 3 and 4 represent the subsystem B (SSB). The gathering of APU into subsystems takes into account the allocation of control functions of the I C system. For the same control function, there is one implementation in an APU of SSA and one implementation in an APU of SSB with different inputs and treatment and their outputs must be identical in the normal operating mode. 

After setting the feedwater flow rate at 35%, nuclear heating starts at a subcriti-cal pressure. When the pressure of the core reaches an adequate value, saturated steam from the separator flows to the turbines. After startup of the turbines, the core is pressurized to a supercritical pressure with a core power at 20%. Startup operation ends and the plant is switched to the normal operation mode. The reactor power increases with the feedwater flow rate.
