Newspaper ads

A newspaper ad, particularly in a paper with wide cii culation, will no doubt reach the most people. In this or the other written job announcements, the employer should always give name and address along with a brief job description. Sometimes, for one reason or another, a company chooses not to reveal its identity. Such blind ads, however, usually have the effect of discouraging the best qualified applicants. This practice is frowned upon by the American Chemical Society and most newspapers. Listing a phone number, where one can call for an application or further information about the job, will help screen out most unqualified applicants. 

Consumer products require expensive magazine advertisements and television commercials. This can amount to 30% or 40% of the selling price. If a new laundry product is introduced, a large amount of money must be spent to convince supermarkets and/or mass distribution outlets to grant it shelf space. They must be convinced it will sell before they will put it on their shelves. They are only interested in items that will move. In 1968 Colgate introduced its new pre-soak, Axion . In the first 9 months it spent over 3,000,000 for advertisements alone- 640,000 for newspaper ads, 865,000 for network television, 886,000 for spot local radio commercials, 800,000 for spot local television commercials, and 199,000 for magazine ads.8 Airwick spent over 7,000,000 to introduce a new disinfectant-deodorant spray in 1973.7... 

Inducements, incidentally, are part of almost every experimental program, in or out of the Army. Newspaper ads recruiting volunteers for similar civilian experiments usually promise a monetary reward. Sometimes compensation comes as a health benefit - free therapy with a new drug along with free... 

The majority of people over 50 find jobs by networking. Generally, it is a waste of time and money to mail resumes in response to newspaper ads. Here are some ideas on developing leads ... 

Separate newspaper ads will promote the Stay Fit Program and the Med Check Program. The Stay Fit ads will be put in the sports section and the Med Check ads will be in the health section.

Most towns have empty stores on the square or near it which can be rented cheaply. All you need are a couple of wrestling mats a sign reading American Martial Arts and some newspaper ads. Coupons offer buyers price reductions at the point of sale (most often at a retail checkout counter). Coupons are made available to consumers in a variety of ways. Some can be cUpped from daily newspaper ads for supermarkets some come as colorful freestanding inserts in Sunday newspapers and some are distributed as fliers to homes within a store s immediate vicinity. Coupons are also mailed directly to consumers, often in booklets or packets assembled by distributors or companies speciahzing in such promotions. Finally, in-pack and on-pack coupons may be affixed to the product and allow savings on the current or a future purchase.
