Nested IF functions

IF functions can be nested. Most commonly a second IF function is used for value if false. Up to seven IF functions can be nested. The following formula performs different operations depending on whether C3-B3 is positive, zero or negative. [Pg.74]

Nested IF functions allow you to calculate, in one cell, values that require different formulas depending on the value in one or more different cells. Otherwise you d have to enter a different formula for each separate case and manually select the cells in which it was to be entered. [Pg.74]

EXAMPLE, In the titration of a weak acid with a strong base, four different equations for the pH of the solution are required at = 0, pH = Cha before the equivalence point, pH = pfCa + log (Ca/Cha) at the equivalence point, pH = [Pg.75]

14 - V HA a and after the equivalence point, pH = 14 - pOH. You can calculate the pH of the solution by entering different formulas into cells in a column labeled pH , as follows for the initial point of the titration, =-LOG(SQRT(C acid 10 -pKa) for the remaining points before the equivalence point, =pKa+LOG(A/HA) at the equivalence point, =14-(-LOG(SQRT(A 10 -(14-pKa)))) beyond the equivalence point, =14-(-LOG((C base V base-V 0 C acid)/V tot)). [Pg.75]

The following formula, using nested IF statements, calculates the pH using a single equation (the formula is entered all in one cell, of course)  [Pg.75]

Define each state as a boolean function of the other attributes. It should be distinct from the other states in the diagram (except those explicitly parallel or nested). If it cannot be made distinct from another state, there is information missing from the model. [Pg.627]

It is possible to nest and combine functions and equations. The expression = C6 + IF A 7>1,10,IF B 5 C 2>5,15,0)) 2 -2 SUM SQ(X+Y) is entirely legitimate, although it is important to ensure that each part of the expression results in an equivalent type of information (in this case die result of using the IF function is a number diat is squared). Note that spreadsheets are not restricted to numerical information they... [Pg.435]

Motivation and Principle. Broadened reflections are characteristic for soft matter. The reason for such broadening is predominantly both the short range of order among the particles in the structural entities, and imperfect orientation of the entities themselves. A powerful method for the separation of these two contributions is Ruland s streak method [30-34], Short range of order makes that the reflection is considerably extended in the radial direction of reciprocal space - often it develops the shape of a streak. This makes it practically possible to measure reflection breadths separately on several11 nested shells in reciprocal space. As a function of shell diameter one of the contributions is constant, whereas the other is changing12. If the measurement is performed on spheres (azimuthal), the orientation component is constant. [Pg.216]

As posed here, the problem is a nonlinear programming one and involves nested loops of calculations, the outer loop of which is Equation (j) subject to Equations (a) through (i), and subject to the inequality constraints. If capital costs are to be included in the objective function, refer to Frey and colleagues (1997). [Pg.446]

These models are nested the search starts with the simplest model and proceeds to the models of increasing degree of complexity (number of fitting parameters). An Ockham s razor principle is assumed here if more than one model is consistent with the data, the simplest model is preferred. For each model of motion, all parameters are determined from fitting, based on the simplex algorithm, to minimize the following target function ... [Pg.298]

However, because measurements are kinetically determined, this is a less accurate form of the equation. Very often it is observed that the measured shift factors, defined for different properties, are independent of the measured property. In addition, if for every polymer system, a different reference temperature is chosen, and ap is expressed as a function of T — rj, then ap turns out to be nearly universal for all polymers. Williams, Landel and Ferry believed that the universality of the shift factor was due to a dependence of relaxation rates on free volume. Although the relationship has no free volume basis, the constants and may be given significance in terms of free volume theory (Ratner, 1987). Measurements of shift factors have been carried out on crosslinked polymer electrolyte networks by measuring mechanical loss tangents (Cheradame and Le Nest, 1987). Fig. 6.3 shows values of log ap for... [Pg.130]

In all formulations that have appeared in the literature thus far, a generalization of the CA reference concept was performed to statistically test for deviations from CA. This means that a function describing interaction is incorporated in the CA model such that if the interaction parameter is 0, the interaction function disappears from the function. This nested structure allows testing whether its appearance in the model improves the description of the data significantly by applying the likelihood ratio test. The various nonlinear response surface approaches do differ in the way this deviation function is formulated. [Pg.140]

If you use a worksheet function within VBA that returns an array, the lower array index will be 1. Such worksheet functions include LI NEST, TRANSPOSE, MINVERSE, MMULT. Other functions that return arrays include the VBA function Caller when used with a menu command or toolbutton. [Pg.283]

If we need only one of the LI NEST outputs in a calculation, it may be extracted by the function =INDEX(array, row, column), without having to display the entire array. For example, the standard error of the regression is =INDEX(LINEST(y-range, x-range, const, stats),3,2) because sy/x is in the third row, second column of LI NEST. [Pg.153]

Let us denote by FA, p the quantity obtained by replacing the Sj by the Sj p in F s. With M. Bergere,1 we say that F s has the simultaneous Taylor series property with respect to the nest Jf if there exist real numbers (which may be negative) such that the function... [Pg.865]

This can readily be done if the reactor heater volume also contains the pre-heater. In this configuration not only do we avoid a separate control function for each of the two modules but we improve experimental reproducibility and minimize random errors. To achieve this, the reactor and pre-heater have to be so nested that the output temperature of the pre-heater is the same as the inlet temperature of the reactor. Careful design, appropriate temperature controls and control of heater-fluid circulation in the heater bath can be made to achieve the desired condition. In the design of TS-PFRs this is arguably the most complicated aspect. [Pg.294]
