Neopentyl ethyl ether

The following example illustrates this point. We shall see (Sec. 16.5) that the neopcntyl cation is particularly prone to rearrange to the more stable ten-pentyl cation. Neopentyl bromide reacts (slowly) with ethoxide ion by an 8 2 mechanism to yield neopentyl ethyl ether it reacts (slowly) with ethyl alcohol by an SnI reaction to yield almost entirely rearranged products. [Pg.470]

Polymerization activity was obtained with a variety of catalyst compositions. The best stereospecific catalyst was the split pretreated type (357) in which one mole of VC14 was reduced by a stoichiometric amount of an alkyl metal (0.34 mole AlEt3) in heptane at room temperature and heated 16 hours at 90° C. to obtain the purple crystalline VC13-1/3 A1C13. This reduced transition metal component was then treated with two moles of (i-Bu)3Al tetrahydrofuran complex for 20 hours at room temperature to obtain a chocolate-brown catalyst consisting predominantly of divalent vanadium with 0.21 Al/V and 1.4 i-Bu/Al. Polymerizations at 30° C. gave crystalline polymers from methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, isobutyl, tert.-butyl, and neopentyl vinyl ethers. [Pg.563]

A large number of compositions containing poly(vinyl alkyl ethers), multifunctional acrylates and benzophenone were irradiated and examined for their pressure-sensitive adhesive properties. Among the components which were found to confer useful properties on the films were the methyl, ethyl, and isobutyl poly(vinyl alkyl ethers) and the multifunctional acrylate derivatives of neopentyl glycol, pentaerythritol, certain epoxidized oils and an aliphatic polyurethane (9). For our present discussion, however, we will focus on the behavior of the poly(vinyl ethyl ether) (PVEE/neopentyl glycol diacrylate (NPGDA) system. [Pg.325]

N-NeoDentyl)-4-DihexylaminoDvrldinium Bromide (3h) The neopentyl salt was prepared in a similar manner from neopentyl mesylate, but reaction was carried out neat at 130 for 72 hr. Higher temperatures cannot be used, due to decomposition of neopentyl mesylate. The crude product was dissolved in water, basifled to neutralize any pyridinium salt, and was washed with petroleum ether to remove amine and unreacted neopentyl mesylate. The aqueous phase was acidified with HBr, and extracted with methylene chloride, to afford crude salt. Recrystallization from 20 1 ethyl acetate/acetonitrile affords the product (mp = 169-170 ). [Pg.51]

Is)max as shown in the diagrams of Figures 17-19 for the three prepolymer types discussed before (polyester, polyether, and polybutadiene). In the examples shown (Is)m ax is about equal for a poly ether (all polypropylene oxide) and a polyester (ca. 49 parts poly (neopentyl glycol) azelate, 35 parts poly (tripropylene glycol) azelate, 10 parts bis (2-ethyl-hexyl) azelate, 6 parts glycerolmonoricinoleate), and about 2 points higher for a polybutadiene binder (ca. 75 parts polybutadiene and 25 parts of a saturated hydrocarbon as plasticizer). [Pg.126]

Til contrast, the reaction in basic alcoholic solution with Na+OC Hs gives normal product, ethyl neopentyl ether, with a second-order rate law indicating a direct >Sjv2 displacement mechanism. Bridged carbonium ions are not always formed as metastable intermediates, other structures being sometimes more stable. ... [Pg.557]
