In the following sections, I will focus on the developments carried out during last 10 years in Japan. The developments have been led mainly by research groups from Hayashibara Biochemical Laboratories Inc. and Biochemical Research laboratory, Ezaki Glico Co., Ltd. Finally I will add one example developed mainly by National Food Research Institute.

The United States has become the major exporter of soybeans and soybean products in the world, and Japan continues to be one of its major trading partners. A research partnership played a role in this development. In 1958, to learn more about the needs of the Japanese food processing industry, the NCAUR invited Japanese scientists to Peoria. Dr. Tokuji Watanabi from the National Food Research Institute demonstrated the methods for traditional Japanese tofu making so that U.S. soybean varieties could be evaluated and selected for the Japanese market. Calibration standards of PTX2 and PTX2S A are available from National Research Institute, Canada (Halifax, Canada) [55], There is a standard toxin distribution project organized by the Japanese Government for domestic use [47], PTXl, PTX2, and PTX6 are available in Japan from Japan Food Research Laboratories (Tama, Japan).
