National Association of Chain Drug

Several national organizations serve the professional needs of U.S. pharmacists. The American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA), founded in 1852. is composed of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science, Academy of Pharmaceutical Practice and Management, and the Academy of Students of Pharmacy. Other organizations include the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists (ASHP). National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS), and National Association of Retail Druggists (NARD).

Approved on July 27, 2004 by the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, the American College of Apothecaries, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, the American Pharmacists Association, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, the National Community Pharmacists Association and the National Council of State Pharmacy Association Executives. 

The size of a pharmacy or pharmacy department commonly is determined by industry averages or by evaluating the sales per square foot of various pharmacy departments. Store managers can obtain industry information on the ideal size for their pharmacies from wholesalers and other vendors, as well as from their professional associations (e.g., National Community Pharmacists Association or National Association of Chain Drug Stores).

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores reported that more than 3.5 billion prescriptions were filled in the USA in 2008,4 which equates to an average of more than 11 prescriptions per head of the population. Efforts to reduce polypharmacy are important but, for many patients, the number of medications cannot always be reduced safely, Thus, it is important to understand the basis for drug interactions to enable the most appropriate choices in prescribing and avoid preventable adverse drug interactions.

National Institute for Standards in Pharmacist Credentialing (NISPC). The NISPC was founded in 1998 by the American Pharmaceutical Association, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, and the National Community Pharmacists Association. NCPA was instrumental in the formation and funding of two major foundations that will benefit community pharmacy in 1999. The first is the Institute for the Advancement of Community Pharmacy, which received a 27.5 million grant from Knoll Pharmaceutical Company to benefit community pharmacy. The board of directors is composed of the CEOs of NCPA and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS). The second is the result of the distribution of funds from a 723 million... 

Research done by The University of Colorado, together with Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), Food Marketing Institute (FMl) and the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS), reported several root causes of Out-of-Stocks (OOS), being low demand forecast accuracy one of the critical causes.
